Where did you come across this info ? do keep in mind that Redhat do 
have their own people looking at the packages as well - and in most 
cases are doing the backports and security fixs for most of the distro 
in house.

That might be upstream policy, but does not - unless we see specific 
info to indicate otherwise - reflect on the CentOS / EL distro tree policy.
