[CentOS-devel] Is it possible to merge elrepo.org contribute to centos main repository?

Or you could point people to the documentation and let them install the
-release files themselves like has been done for years.

This is really getting ridiculous.  If the bar of entry is so high that
merely installing a 3rd-party -release file is too complicated or
difficult people might care to revisit their career path.  The distro
has no real need to provide these -release files and the potential
problems with doing so outweigh any benefits.
