[CentOS-gsoc] Open source GIS software from OSGEO, osgeo4centos

Repository of Open Source GIS software  for CentOS

Open Source GIS software is going very strong, e.g. software under the 
umbrella of http://www.osgeo.org. Unfortunately, the packaging situation 
for CentOS is not that good.

Could the idea of creating a repository of packages, like the one for 
Windows  (http://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/wiki/PackageListing) be an 
acceptable proposal for GSOC? I am working on a daily basis with a good 
part of these packages and do have some SPEC files to share.
