Really for RAID, you want identical disks. Better solution would be to
just archive important data to the drive on a semi-regular basis.

as for raid on just one disk, it's not a belt&suspenders type
scenario, it's a "wearing two belts" scenario. There's no real point,
because if the drive fails, you're screwed just the same.
