You might want to look at xawtv (in Dag's repository).  If your card is 
supported by v4l or bttv it will give you command line and windowed 
utilities for viewing TV, capturing video, and listening to the radio 
tuner.  At least it did on my old Pinnacle card.

Note that this is dependent on video4linux, which is not in the stock 
kernel, so I think you'll need the 'unsupported' kernel to make it work.
