the useradd / audit issue is not specific to the mysql pkg.

what kernel were you running at the time( before the update ) ? 
smp-2.6.9-11.x86_64 should have been ok.. the only machines I got hit 
with were x86_64 SMP running 2.6.9-5.0.5
