Don't need dd. The nature of *IX file systems is that raw file system
access is "automatic" just by requesting it.

s/ \| dd //

Older unix systems  may not have gzip/bzip and if they do, may not have
it callable from tar. Might need to use it in a pipeline.

tar -xzvf /dev/rfd0xx
