I've been waiting for the "authoritative network admin" to speak up, but no 
one has.  I believe that as long as the interfaces are connected to different 
networks, there is no problem having the same MAC address.  Connecting two 
NICs with the same mac address to the same network would be a Bad Thing (tm), 
as network switches would be confused about where to send packets destined for 
the MAC address in question.  Years ago, Sun workstations with multiple NICs 
would always have the same MAC address for all the NICs.

That being said, it does seem less than helpful on a modern motherboard.  I 
just wanted to point out that it _may_ be an intentional design issue (though 
I agree a bad one).
