I'm at a complete loss as to what is going on. I changed kernels and disabled the video driver, removed the firewire card. NIS refuses to work on this workstation. Unless this gets figured out, I'm going to simply have to create local user accounts, then let NFS take over. It would be really nice to figure it out one of these days, as if I can learn the culprit, I'll be better educated the next time I face something like this. I did try tcpdump, but no obvious things popped up. Scott
