thank you for all that responded.

the disk appeared wiped and without partitions..., yet it wasnt and even
though it would allow me to partition it, the software install did not want
to play ball with a disk that did not have a partitiion removed even though
you could not see it so to speak.

the machines are screamerssssssssssss...
