DISCLAIMER: Not fully tested, might have other side effects. Do it at
your own risk. Also, it might not clean exactly what is causing your
problem (which could be a Gnome application that does not save its
state there).

1. Log off Gnome.
2. rm -rf ~/.gconf* ~/.gnome*
3. Log in Gnome again.
