I rarely use server consoles directly after they are installed to the point that
the network is up. Instead, I run an instance of freenx somewhere (it can be
on the server in question but doesn't have to be), then connect with the NX
client and open terminal windows on that desktop to ssh to any other machines.
This gives you GUI control over multiple windows, cut and paste - including with
the local desktop where the NX client runs, your choice of fonts, color, etc.
Plus, you can disconnect the session from the NX client were you started it and
subsequently grab it from the same or another client with all windows still
intact and running, which is great for remote administration or checking on
long-running programs.
