[CentOS] multipath

Upgrding the kernel to 2.6.18-164.10.1.el5xen brought back /dev/dm-* and now
multipath -ll has the ouput.
I am curious about what has caused the lost of /dev/dm* in my previous
kernel.
Any ideas?
