How about using the logging options snmpd offers?

man snmpd

 -L[efos]
               Specify where logging output should be directed (standard
error or output, to a file or via syslog). See LOGGING OPTIONS in
snmpcmd(5) for details.
               This option deprecates the -l -s and -S options.

-> man 1 snmpcmd -> LOGGING OPTIONS

Then set /etc/sysconfig/snmpd.options as you like to. For instance, I am
running with

~ $ cat /etc/sysconfig/snmpd.options
OPTIONS="-LS n d -LF i /dev/null -p /var/run/snmpd.pid -a"
