Two questions: Is your CD-ROM drive an IDE drive (/dev/hd<mumble>)? Are any of your LVM volumes on IDE drives? If all of your LVM volumes are on SATA (or SCSI), then you can tell LVM to skip scanning the IDE devices (/dev/hd*).
