[CentOS] OT: Why VM?

I saw a company architecture presentation where they had paired servers with 2 VMs each + DRBD + heartbeat...
So, on each server there is an active VM and a 'backup' VM, crossed.
If one server goes down, the 'backup' VM on the second server would be activated.
