The problem occurred after I downloaded and compiled the package for enabling wireless on the laptop from the site '<a href="http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php">www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php</a>' which I got to know from the site '<a href="http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Wireless/Broadcom">wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Wireless/Broadcom</a>'<br>
