We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of CentOS-6.2
for i386 and x86_64 Architectures. Release Notes for 6.2
are available at http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS6.2 -
we recommend everyone looks through those once.
CentOS-6.2 is based on the upstream release EL 6.2 and includes packages
from all variants. All upstream repositories have been combined into
one, to make it easier for end users to work with.
All updates released since upstream 6.2 release are also released to the
CentOS-6.2 mirrors. With this release we are now back to a regular,
managed and tested release path and time scales. However, for the time
being, we are going to retain the CR/ repo in the event its needed in
the future to push ahead-of-release updates.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Upgrading from CentOS-4 or CentOS-5:
We recommend everyone run through a reinstall rather than attempt an
inplace upgrade from CentOS-4 or CentOS-5
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Downloading CentOS-6.2 for new installs:
When possible, consider using torrents to run the downloads. In most
cases you will find its also the fastest means to download the distro.
There are currently over a thousand people seeding CentOS-6 and it's
possible to get upto 400mbps downloads via these torrents.
Torrent files for the DVD's are available at :
http://mirror.centos.org/centos/6.2/isos/i386/CentOS-6.2-i386-bin-DVD1to2.t…http://mirror.centos.org/centos/6.2/isos/x86_64/CentOS-6.2-x86_64-bin-DVD1t…
You can also use a mirror close to you :
http://www.centos.org/modules/tinycontent/index.php?id=30
Most mirrors will allow direct DVD downloads over http, ftp and rsync.
Please keep in mind that not all mirrors are currently updated, some
might take upto another 24 hours before they have all the content.

Sources and Debuginfo packages:
SRPMS and debuginfo packages are released to vault.centos.org - A
separate announcement will be send through about how we are changing the
way we handle srpms and debuginfo rpms from here on in order to improve
the overall user experience.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Getting Help:
The best place to start when looking for help with CentOS is at the wiki
( http://wiki.centos.org/GettingHelp ) which lists various options and
communities who might be able to help. If you think there is a bug in
the system, do report it at http://bugs.centos.org/ - but keep in mind
that the bugs system is *not* a support mechanism.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Contributing and joining the project:
We are always looking for people to join and help with various things in
the project. If you are keen to help out a good place to start is the
wiki page at http://wiki.centos.org/Contribute . If you have questions
or a specific area you would like to contribute towards that is not
covered on that page, feel free to drop in on
#centos-devel(a)irc.freenode.net for a chat or email the centos-devel list
(http://lists.centos.org)
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Thanks to everyone who contributed towards making 6.2, specially the
enormous effort put in by everyone on the QA team - right on the heels
of the 6.1 release. And the excellent work being done on the
test-automation.
I would personally like to thank my wife, who puts up with all sorts of
strange work hours and sacrifices personal time, often, in favour of
letting me put in more efforts into CentOS.
Enjoy!

There are known Collision Attacks for the MD5SUM method of hashing, so
it is possible to modify a file and make it have the same MD5SUM as
another file. See this link for details on Collision Attacks:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collision_attack
Recommendation from the US-CERT concerning MD5SUM hashes:
http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/836068
Based on the above information, the CentOS team will be using sha256sum
(sha-2) and not md5sum to generate future hashes for posting on our
e-mail announcements to the CentOS Announce Mailing List.

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of
CentOS-6.1/minimal for i386 and x86_64 Architectures.
The minimal install iso media is an alternative install to the main
CentOS-6.1 distribution and comes with a trimmed down, preselected rpm
list. However, it still runs off the standard installer, with all the
regular features that one would expect from the main distribution,
except the rpm selection screen has been disabled. Running an install
from this media will not allow you to change the rpms selected for install.
Release Notes for this media can be found at :

The ISO files are avilable at :
http://isoredirect.centos.org/centos/6/isos/i386/http://isoredirect.centos.org/centos/6/isos/x86_64/
Since the size for these files is relatively small, no torrent files are
being released.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
NOTES:
We have tried to test this install for most deployment roles, including
VMs and physical machines. And with lvm, mdraid, iscsi and dm-multipath
environments.
These images also contain the complete recovery and rescue environment
found in the main distribution.
You should be able to use these images from CD media, DVD media, USB
storage devices.
We do not recommend these images be used with kickstart files written
for the main CentOS distro images.
An install will setup yum to work with the regular default CentOS 6.1
repositories. Once the installed machine instace boots it should work
just like a regular CentOS machine, with only the bare minimal rpms
installed. All package management, networking and storage related
functionality should already be in place.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
There is no upstream Minimal media product.
These ISOs only contains content found within the primary CentOS-6.1
distribution. No package from outside the distribution was included and
no package has been changed from whats included in the base distribution.
We appreciate all forms of feedback about these images, including
specific application inclusion requests or feature changes in future
releases. The best place to provide this feedback is via the
centos-devel mailing list ( http://lists.centos.org/ ) and feature
requests via the issue tracker ( http://bugs.centos.org/ ).
Special thanks to Manuel Wolfshant for requesting and then doing a lot
of the work to make the minimal disk images happen; And everyone on the
CentOS QA team who contributed their time and resources towards testing
these images.
Enjoy!

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of CentOS-6.1
LiveDVD for i386 and x86_64 architectures.
Detailed Release Notes are available at
http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOSLiveDVD6.1
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Overview
The CentOS-6.1 LiveDVD is meant to be a Linux environment suited to be
run directly from either DVD media or USB storage devices. It does not
need any persistent storage on a machine, which also makes it a suitable
recovery environment.
The LiveDVDs are setup to run as full desktop environments and include
most of the applications used in this role.

Once you download the images, its important to verify contents using the
sha256sum utility, against the published sums here.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Notes
You can now install the Live environment to your hard disk (which wasn’t
possible with the 5.x Live medias). Please note that you need more that
512Mb of ram to be able to use that ‘install to hard drive’ feature (If
you have less than 512Mb of ram, you can install to disk but in
text-mode, meaning that instead of clicking on the desktop icon, you
have to launch a gnome-terminal and launch the ‘liveinst’ command from
within the terminal)
There is no upstream Live media product. The Live media produced within
the CentOS Project is based on and around the livemedia tools from the
Fedora Project.
These LiveDVD only contains content found within the primary CentOS-6.1
distribution. No package from outside the distribution was included and
no package has been changed from whats included in the base distribution.
We appreciate all forms of feedback about these LiveDVD, including
specific application inclusion requests or feature changes in future
releases. The best place to provide this feedback is via the
centos-devel mailing list ( http://lists.centos.org/ ) and feature
requests via the issue tracker ( http://bugs.centos.org/ ).
Special thanks to Fabian Arrotin for taking up the LiveCD and LiveDVD
efforts, and to everyone on the QA team who worked through the issues
and helped build, test and release these images.

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of CentOS-6.1
LiveCD for i386 and x86_64 architectures.
Detailed Release Notes are available at
http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOSLiveCD6.1
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Overview
The CentOS-6.1 LiveCD is meant to be a Linux environment suited to be
run directly from either CD media or USB storage devices. It does not
need any persistent storage on a machine, which also makes it a suitable
recovery environment.
Due to space constraints, it was not possible to include all the
traditional desktop applications on the LiveCD. You can though enjoy a
Gnome basic desktop, view and modify pictures with gthumb, browsing the
web with Firefox, send emails with Thunderbird and connect to your
favorite Instant Messaging network with Pidgin
Note that the package manifest has changed slightly from the LiveCD6.0
release: Gimp has been removed and rdesktop,tigervnc,vinagre and
tsclient have been added.
