Please note that you need more that 512Mb of ram to be able to use that 'iinstall to hard drive' feature (If you have less than 512Mb of ram, you can install to disk but in text-mode, meaning that instead of clicking on the desktop icon, you have to launch a gnome-terminal and launch the 'liveinst' command from within the terminal) There is no upstream Live media product. The Live media produced within the CentOS Project is based on and around the livemedia tools from the Fedora Project. CentOS Linux 6.7 is derived from source code released by Red Hat, Inc. for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7. All upstream variants have been placed into one combined repository to make it easier for end users. Workstation, server, and minimal installs can all be done from our combined repository. All of our testing is only done against this combined distribution. There are many fundamental changes in this release, compared with the past CentOS Linux 6 releases, and we highly recommend everyone study the upstream Release Notes as well as the upstream Technical Notes about the changes and how they might impact your installation. (See the 'Further Reading' section if the CentOS release notes link above). All updates since the upstream 6.7 release are also on the CentOS mirrors as zero day updates. When installing CentOS-6.7 (or any other version) from any of our media, you should always run 'yum update' after the install to apply these. Users consuming our centos-cr repositories will already be running all the packages that make up CentOS-6.7, and all updates released since. They will notice only the centos-release rpm update today when moving to CentOS Linux 6.7. Unless you have edited your yum default configuration, a 'yum update' should move your machines seamlessly from any previous CentOS Linux 6.x release to 6.7. We also test this in our QA cycles and have noticed no problems, any issues would be mentioned in the Release Notes. +++++++++++++++++++++++ Downloading CentOS Linux 6.7 for new installs: When possible, consider using torrents to obtain our ISOs. Usually it is also the fastest means to download the distro. The install media is split into various formats. We have made efforts to ensure that most install types and roles can be done from DVD-1 itself, and the minimal install ISO is only tested to deliver a minimal install set, when used as an ISO format ( either on cd or usb ). While other forms of installs ( eg. pxe delivered ) might work from the minimal ISO, they are neither tested not supported. The only format where we support the entire set of install options and delivery mechanisms is via the complete CentOS Linux 6.7 tree, wihch can also be created by consolidating all content from DVD1 and DVD2. We no longer produce CD size images for the entire CentOS Linux 6 distribution, however the minimal install and netinstall iso images are small enough to fit on all CD grade media. This is the first major release of CentOS Linux 7 for ARM/AArch64 produced by the AltArch Special Interest Group. This release is built from sources available at git.centos.org from the c7, c7-ppc64le, and c7-aarch64 branches. Installation ============ This release provides media for a network install, as well as an Everything ISO that can be used for USB based installation if desired. This ISO is currently too large for standard DVD media, and so is best used via USB media. Additionally, a compressed disk image has been provided for rapid deployments of a development environment. Announcing the CentOS Linux AltArch SIG

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi Everyone, It gives me great pleasure to announce the formation of the CentOS Linux AltArch Special Interest Group ( SIG ). This SIG will be setup and managed by community members who want to come and help port CentOS Linux to architectures and platforms not supported by the Core SIG itself. Note: this is not called secondary arch group, since the word secondary indicates some level of inferiority - and I would rather we use release tagging ( test, devel, alpha, beta etc ) rather than silo a group into always being only 'secondary'. The group would have the ability to import content as needed, adapt content as needed, deliver in media that is suitable and needed for the platform they are targeting. For vendor driven ecosystems where they own the entire platform and implementation of the platform ( eg. as seen in the ARMv7 and v8 space ), I encourage vendors to get involved with the effort - however do so without making it a role driven position. For the continuity of the effort, its far more productive for vendors to encourage individual level participation from their organisations into the CentOS AltArch effort. We will retain the requirement that all 'CentOS' branded content must be hosted, built and delivered from infra operated by the CentOS Infra team, signed with a CentOS key ( run by the Core SIG ) and must be freely redistributable ( in line with the CentOS Linux standards and requirements ). Working process - - All AltArch SIG's should aim to use the noarch generated from the x86_64 builds as much as possible - - All members of the AltArch group should have git.c.o commit access, all content built into an AltArch target should also be hosted at git.centos.org in a compatible format to the existing git repositories. git.centos.org: - - Create arch specific tags in the SIG as needed. eg: + altarch-aarch64 + altarch-power8 + altarch-i686 These arch' branches will/can be used to host spec file and source changes as needed specific to that arch. If a change is needed for multiple arch's, we just need to then carry it in all those branches ( but we can socialise the changeset to the other arch's that might benefit from this change ). the baseline assumption is that the core protected branch then only corresponds to the x86_64 distro for CentOS Linux 7, and for i686 + x86_64 on CentOS Linux 5 and 6. cbs.centos.org can grow targets as needed. These targets should map to the git branch names as much as possible, and as hardware is available to contribute into a central pool. Each koji target per branch should have the same tags as the generic SIG targets ( ie. candidate, testing, release ). Users in the altArch group should be able to pull from their own branch, the protected git branches, and other arch branches. SIG 'product' will be release as : - - to buildlogs and cbs.centos.org/repos/ as a testing / devel set of repos and installs as needed - - to mirror.centos.org as 'stable' but under a different SIG path. ( http://mirror.centos.org/altarch ) External mirrors will not receive this content by default. However, they can opt into receiving it and we encourage them to. For people who want to work on pre-release platforms, we can come up with a working process that helps them stage and release early on platform availability. This includes manual builds outside of the central pool, as developer PoC builds etc. The overall aim here is to be openly inclusive to extend the baseline platform that CentOS Linux can run on. In the coming days, we will organise an inaugural meeting on irc, and invite interested people to come help form the initial bootstrap admin group for the SIG. This initial meeting will also help formalise some of the work that has been happening around the edges already in the Aarch64, ARMv7, PowerPC and i686 platforms around CentOS Linux 7.
