Yes, please create a config.txt to test.
You can use the params from this link https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/config-txt/video.md

Wrt a template, I'd start with
hdmi_safe=1

or
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=xxxxx (whatever mode you need)
