anaconda in 3.3?

Greetings, I'm using centos3 to study for rhce, centos came highly recommended in Michael Jang's rhce study guide. I've been having trouble isntalling via nfs, an early exercise in the book, and googling around leads me to think it might be an anaconda bug. I tried following the anaconda link on the "upgrading from 3.1" page but it's actually a duplicate of the anacron link. Does anyone know if this update addresses anything along these lines? Lesson Learned

Hello all, I learned a very valuable lesson this weekend and thought I would share. I noticed that the xcdroastalpha15-rhel3.i386.rpm's non root mode didn't work very well, so I decided to set out an build my own rpm for it. Well I still can figure out how to add icons to the Main Draw but did finally build a good working RPM. However after doing some reading on the Xcdroast web site, It appears that it is known that the xcdroastalpha15-rhel3.i386.rpm does not work in non-root mode very well and that if you want to use non-root mode you should just download the one for RH9 "xcdroast-0.98alpha15-1.i386.rpm". Hello gillian, You can try adding these options to the kernel commandline and it might help: noapic iommu=off The 2.4/2.6 hybrid kernel that RedHat supplies with RHEL3 has some issues with some AMD64 motherboards AFAIK, and the above options made the CentOS 3's kernel bootable for me on one of our systems. BTW - I've moved this to the CentOS mailing list, that is a more appropriate forum for this question. Please remove the caos(a)caosity.org CC if/when anyone replies. another yum question

Hello centos community, I have a personal repository with self-made RPMs, and i need to include this repository to yum.conf. But i've noticed that yum configuration is overwritten when yum is updated. I can't update yum.conf manually on my servers each time yum is updated ... Is anyone have an idea ? Thank you. -- Martin

Adding shortcuts to menu

Problems with CentOS 3.3 Disk2 Iso Image?

Hi All, I've downloaded this image (disk 2) from several sites, and it matches the MD5 sum. Burning it to a CD gives no errors, but the disk is failing the self-check at the start, and if I ignore that and try to install I get random packages which "cannot be read". I know the burner is OK, as I've burned other CDs on it just fine after burning the CentOS ones. Any thoughts? -Scott

Possible new CentOS user (currently WBEL)

Hi, For a few months i've been using WhiteBox Enterprise Linux. In fact, i've migrated all my companie's servers (about 20) to this RHEL distro like. Well, it's not that i'm not satisfied, but WBEL is a one man show and that causes me some preocupation. And besides, it seems to me that it can't stand up to the rythm RHEL evolves. That's why i'm writing to you, posing a few questions, if you don't mind to answer: 1 - Why did you choose CentOS ? 2 - If you have/had experience with WBEL, why do you prefer CentOS ? 3 - Is CentOS ahead of WBEL in terms of being up to date with RHEL ? 4 - Does CentOS releases an updated version everytime RH does ? 5 - What is (more or less) the time gap between a RHEL update and the correspondent CentOS ? Sun Gridengine and Centos

G'day. I'm having a little trouble getting Gridengine 5.3 running properly on a cluster using Centos 3.3. Everything appears okay, but my jobs hang in the queue with the gridengine complaining that node is overloaded, but there is nothing (unusual) running on the node and the load is 0. Has anyone else run into similar problems? -geoff

CentOS3.3

Hello all, Just need some info to clarify something. How is 3.3? By word of mouth I heard that their may have been some issues with it. However I have not heard anything here on this forum or any problems with RHE3 U3. So I am assuming all is well. Please verify if possible.
