Gang, I've got to admit, what really sold me on debian was apt-get. And I've been resisting getting up to speed with yum. So, can any of ya point me to a good starter page, maybe one with migrators like me in mind? CentOS-3 errata - updated kernel packages fix security vulnerabilities

The spec file is still changed to remove reference to Red Hat but the release level is left unchanged. This is just one more little step towards our aim of full compatibility ... To update to this new kernel version run yum update (assuming you havent modified the yum configuration to not update kernels) Then you will need to reboot the machine to use the new kernel. Lance

Help: Apache2, Tomcat5 and jk2_connector

Hello, Does any have Apache 2.0.49 with tomcat 5.5.4 and jakarta-tomcat-connectors-jk2-2.0.4 working??? CentOS-3 x86_64 errata - updated httpd fixes trademark issue

A recent message announced new httpd packages that fixed a trademark issue (refer to https://bugzilla.caosity.org/show_bug.cgi?id=710) These have now been made available for x86_64: RPMS/httpd-2.0.46-44.ent.centos.2.x86_64.rpm RPMS/httpd-devel-2.0.46-44.ent.centos.2.x86_64.rpm RPMS/mod_ssl-2.0.46-44.ent.centos.2.x86_64.rpm SRPMS/httpd-2.0.46-44.ent.centos.2.src.rpm Execute "yum update httpd" to apply. I get this error when I update with Yum. It seems to be with CUPs. I also got this installing MySQL-Server. Should I point to another repo? Or even worry? :) -- <<JAV>>

Hey all, Just wanted to say good job the the CentOS team and community! I am very impressed with the open communication, fast updates (errata, etc), and the supportive nature of the CentOS community. I recently moved my boxes over from Whitebox Ent. Linux (for various reasons) to CentOS, and it was really worth it. I'm glad to be here. =] Keep up the good work, it's appreciated. -Ryan

Local mirrors and ISP transfer bills

As a matter of policy and because I'm at the end of a DS/1 that needs to feed my customers needs, I've set up a local subset mirror of Centos 3.3. It's a subset because I don't copy any of the x86_64 directories ( no machines that use them ) but it's also a superset because I've added an additional "local" directory structure that contains things that I need - amavis, clamav etc. I can do "yum install amavisd-new" from any of my servers and have yum install or update the packages that are needed. The advantage for everyone in doing this is that I don't have to use up my DS/1 bandwidth for installs or updates of multiple machines and the mirrors don't get hit with a dozen requests for the same file from one location. (I was quite annoyed when the updated yum package wanked up my custom yum.conf) An additional benefit to me is that updates to my real customer servers go at a hundred megabit rate rather than the time it'd take to suck down a new kernel or openoffice through a DS/1. I'd like to recommend that everyone with some kind of server farm do this. The local mirror doesn't have to be wonderful - mine is a 200mhz PPro machine built out of junked parts - all it has to do is serve FTP. You'll save money in the long run and reduce the cost to the donated mirrors. Someone pays for the bandwidth, one way or the other.

And another....Webmin

Is anyone using Webmin with CentOS? I've always found it works very well with RHat Linux. I've not used RHEL so I'm not sure. I know on my SuSE server it doesn't seem to work well and suspect there are some location problems. -- <<JAV>>
