yum was unable to find and install netatalk, so i used RH9 package. It successfully installed, but didn't started. Dmesg showed me that some module is missing. I pressume I will need to compile new kernel, right ? Best Regards Kuba

Linux World Expo 2004 in SF

The cAos Foundation and hosted projects have been granted a booth in the Dot Org Pavilion of Linux World Expo in SF this August. If you are a developer or contributor of the project and would like to help staff the both, please send me a private email so we can coordinate. I don't have the actual numbers of Exhibitor badges that we can get yet, but I would assume it is not many. This means it is first come first serve to receive a booth duty free pass. Greetings. I have just successfully updated a RH-9 file server to CentOS-3.1. I'm VERY impressed. I have a client who has 4 Redhat servers (1 x 7.3 and 3 x 9.0) that I would like to migrate to CentOS-3.1. Question: My client is willing to send a donation for these boxes but they just want to send you (caosity.org) a check that will cover the next couple of years. Who do we make the check out to? Where do we send the check? And if a bulk donation via check is OK, then please publish the payee information on the website. Another suggestion... Under the "Contribute to the CaOS Foundation", I think it might be useful to specifically list the current help or tasks wanted/needed for the foundation. Moving from Fedora core 1 to CentOS

Hi All, I know you can migrate from RH9 to CentOS but what I was wondering was if anyone has migrated from Fedora core 1 to Centos. If not, I'll moving everything, email, apache, samba, etc.. to a new CentOS machine and do a fresh install of CentOS on the current Fedora Core 1 machine. Upgrade from RH-9 to CentOS-3.1, any issues?

Greetings, I've got 4 Redhat-9 servers in a production environment and I don't feel like moving to RHEL. So I'm testing CentOS-3.1 now. So far so good. I'd like to get these servers moved over in the next month or so to a better "supported" OS. Are there any issues I should be aware of in upgrades these RH-9 boxes? Should I be able to just stick in the Centos-3.1 CDROM and choose upgrade? Thanks, Michael

NIC detection by anaconda

Hello all, I'm not able to install CentOS in a motherboard with a onboard 3Com gigabit nic (3c904/Syskonnect). Although there's a device driver for the Syskonnect (sk98lin) in the linux kernel, the installation program is asking for this interface module. I tried to create a device disk, but without success. Maybe I'm missing some information about the modules detection by the installation. How could I check the modules in the iso image ? or how could I insert a new module in the iso image ? Anyone could gime me some help on this problem ? TIA, Lauro Whately.

kernel panic

dear sir; i am using centos 3.1 on a test server . i install oracle 10g and it works fine . but after installing a patch for oracle i have the following error : error while loading shared library /etc/libwait.so can't open shared file and after rebooting i have the same error plus " kernel panic " so is there any thing that i can do to get my system working ? and from where can i get the aproperate oracle patchs for centos ? thanks in advance . khaled

Upgrade install using CentOS-3.1 ISO images

Cutting straight to the chase: When, if ever, does the installer offer an option to upgrade an existing installation, rather than wanting to reformat the disks? More details than you may want: I recently acquired a new PC chassis, with no operating system but with a Serial-ATA disk (which I was not expecting when I ordered it). I set the BIOS for legacy IDE mode and installed RedHat 9, then attempted to upgrade the kernel to add SATA support, without much luck. Searching for the SATA driver modules I found CentOS and decided to try it. I downloaded the three ISO images to another PC, burned CDs, and set about to upgrade my RH9. However, the installer never offered me the option of upgrading (keeping my existing filesystems) -- no matter what steps I tried using when starting the installer, by the time it got to the page for disk partitioning it always wanted to start from scratch and blow the existing partitions away. I finally concluded that I hadn't put anything important on the disks during my struggle with RH9, so I went ahead with the clean install. Everything is working nicely at this point, so thanks for that. However, there are some other RH9 systems around the office that may need to be upgraded at some point, and they definitely can't be wiped clean in the process. Is there a way to upgrade from RH9 to CentOS? Any remarks about upgrading from even older RedHat releases?

3.1 on ASUS SK8V SATA problem

This is my first post to this mailing list, although I have been reading it for a while. Please forgive the length of my message. Also, great work! I'm trying to get Centos-3 running on an ASUS SK8V Opteron motherboard in a way that is useful for me. I've had some success, but now I'm stuck on a problem with the SATA driver. Okay, so I got it up on the network by replacing sk98lin with the one from 2.4.26. While I'm pretty confident that's not a supported thing to do, the machine is pretty useless to me off the network. I know I could throw a supported adapter in it, but it works as is. By the way, my intention is to get a native amd64 distribution of Linux running and my preference is that it be a RedHat derivative. I am not able to tell from the cAos web site whether there are any plans to release an amd64 version of Centos. The only reference I see to that platform is in the FAQ and looks specific to cAos. There are amd64 sources on RedHat's web site for rhel3. My experience of Centos so far is of it being i386 centric. So, the problem I hit. I installed Centos-3 using the iso images onto a couple of SCSI drives I have in the system, then got the 2.4.21-15 kernel update and enabled SATA support. Through a series of modprobes, I got it to recognize the drive. However, it didn't find a valid partition table, and the geometry is way off. My SATA disk is a WD740GD, a 74GB drive. Fdisk thinks it is 30MB, 255 heads, 63 sector/track, 3 cylinders. Have I done something wrong, or is the VIA SATA support in this kernel just not gonna hack it? The SK8V uses the VIA VT8237 southbridge chipset if anyone knows about this. Thanks for any help. -- C. Linus Hicks <lhicks(a)nc.rr.com>
