Dominic, If you have two or more nameservers (as is normal), you would have two or more lines in resolv.conf: nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.1 nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.2 People usually have more than one nameserver because one might not be working at any moment. Rsynch question

resolving urls

Hello all, I have a clerk connect box running at my library and it is based on RH9. I am having a little trouble with resolving URLs. I have two nics in it. eth0 with an Internet connection and and eth1 which is my inhouse LAN. Now I can ping IPs on the Lan, and On the net but I can not ping URL's (www.yahoo.com) now I do have an entry in resolv.conf nameserver xxx.xxx.xx.xxx and this setup works the same on other Linux boxes some redhat some CentOS. cache flush command

That's yum, it will start downloading all the headers of the packages that are new (in your case about 1200) and scares the shit out of users by displaying all that :) I understand your reaction, the default behaviour should be less verbose. You understand that I cannot make a repository for each package :) If you're concerned about the few core packages that are replaced, there is a Yum patch in TaoLinux that allows to protect the base system by not replace Red Hat core packages by third party ones. I'm only doing that for tools like lftp, rsync and a few others. (Tools that have been drastically improved since the RHEL3 release and most people want to use anyway). But of course that is more a personal liking and especially if you have paid for Red Hat support that may not be what you want. Still since it can be done automatically, I think this logic should go into Yum instead of the overhead you get from maintaining a second repository. NeTraverse Win4Lin 5.0

Anybody get win4lin 5.0 running on CentOs? I have a Ibm Thinkpad 600 running centos 3.3. I tried running the win4lin installer which downloaded a supported kernel and installed but when I went to reboot the laptop, the drivers for my wireless card were missing along with usb support. Then when the laptop went into run level 5 nothing happens. Then the x server throughs an error about a bad config. So I cancel it and it doesn't even go to the cl login. I have also tried to patch the source that I downloaded from yum and the wireless and usb work, but still having the problems with the x server. I am fairly familiar with linux but not to familiar with the x server stuff. I was just wondering if someone had successfully got it to work and if they can tell me what they did, or have somebody point me into the right direction of where to look. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dan

There were come package incompatibilities that blocked the migration via YUM, so I did "yum remove" on each package that yum complained about. After removing a couple of rpm's, the migration went ahead. Afterward, I did "yum install" to put the packages back that I had removed. That seems to be a successful approach. Hey, Has anyone installed a java applet on a CentOS-3? http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/ASP/contribs/9/i386/j2re-java-plugin-1.4.2_02-… I need a java applet for some functionality accessing my SmoothWall firewall from a workstation on the internal network.
