Should I and can I upgrade GTK+/PyGTK?

I'm trying out different music players. One that looks promising is called Quod Libet: http://www.sacredchao.net/quodlibet I downloaded the tar file and attempted to install it. I got this message: [dave@localhost quodlibet-0.13.1]$ ./quodlibet.py E: You need GTK+ 2.6 and PyGTK 2.6 or greater. E: You have GTK+ 2.4.13 and PyGTK 2.4.0. E: Please upgrade GTK+/PyGTK. I tried a YUM update, but it didn't say anything about new versions of GTK or PyGTK. What am I not understanding about this situation? Dave

I need a package updated...

...Where do I go? Hi please forgive me if I missed something obvious, but I've been reading and searching for a couple days to no avail. I'm trying to get the latest cinelerra running on CentOS4.1 on a dual Xeon machine. I need: cinelerra: /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.4' not found (required by cinelerra) (x86_64) and apparently the latest available is: libstdc++-3.4.3-22.1 (x86_64) So, my question is, who maintains these packages? Is there a way to request an upgrade? It is easy to build your own? Or am I opening up a can of worms. If so, where can I turn to for info? I have found libstdc++-3.4.4-2 but it's for ia64. I am setting up a test domain to learn bind, and how it,s working. The master domain is bbb.ttt.domene 10.11.12.13 the child domain ftp.bbb.ttt.domene 10.11.55.77 The thing I don't understand is, why don't the query report additional info (ip address)? Updates not catching up ?

Hi, I have downloaded and installed centos 4.1 from DVD and I a little confused with the update procedure. The faq from the centos.org site mentions something like 72 hrs (or less) from one security update to goes from the sources.rpm from rh to centos. I was cheking rh's site (https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/rhel4as-errata.html) and saw one update to mysql (https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/rhel4as-errata.html) that I can't get using yum upgrade. For example. My mysql is mysql.i386 0:4.1.10a-2.RHEL4.1 and rh is mysql-4.1.12-3.RHEL4.1.src.rpm.. I am using the standard yum.conf/yum.repos.d. Is this a mirror problem or it is taking longer than expected for the updates to be available ? tks.

Is there a way to specify that program X should be kep in memory and not swap it out? I have a program that takes some time to load and as long as you keep using it its responsive but if after sometime its not in use and now I use it it has a slow response till it gets swapped back in. The box in question has 1 GIG ram and its not running much else just this program really. Just looking for a way to keep it in RAM. Thanks, Jerry

Samba Setup Fails or Samba Access Fails

I recently installed centos 4.1 and I'm trying to get samba working on it to serve windows boxes on a lan. I configured samba on the centos server using the graphical samba server configuration tool, which is similar to the samba setup on redhat 9 that I have successfully setup in the past. I setup samba user names and passwords with the same user names and passwords used on the win boxes. I'm not able to access any shared samba folders from win boxes on the lan. I disabled the firewall on the centos server using the graphical security level configuration tool but I still can't access the samba shares. When I use a win box to connect to samba it will not complete the connection. It acts like the firewall is still running. I disabled iptables on the centos server using the graphical services configuration tool but I still can't access the samba shares. I can ping the centos server from linux and windows boxes on the lan. The centos server can ping other machines on the lan and can access the internet. When I try to telnet into the centos server from win and linux boxes on the lan I get these messages: On linux boxes: "Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused" On win boxes: Connecting To 192.168.1.2...Could not open connection to the host, on port 23. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. Can anyone tell me what Im doing wrong or what I need to do to get samba working on centos? Logrotate Issue

I keep logfiles for each of our hosted domains in their root/logs directory. Each month, logrotate runs but fails to recreate the logfiles after this rotation. I've noted that a restart of Apache fixes this. The issue is Webalizer doesn't have log files to work from for a day to several days depending on whatever the heck it is that seems to recreate them like on Sunday following the start of a new month. Perhaps my storage of the logs in a 'semi-non-standard' location is causing this? I sure would like to have some input into a best solution. I really don't like automatic restarts of Apache, but if there is no other option, I'll do that. Anybody had this issue and come up with a good cure? Thanks, John Hinton
