Hi what do you guys use for shared calendars these days? I've been using corporate time but that is now part of Oracle suite so looking for an alternative that is hopefully open source/free to complete my 'get away from exchange' package. thanks

Default number of serial ports

Hi all: My question is concerning the default number of serial ports compiled into the standard CentOS 4.x kernel. It looks like the default is 8, is that correct, and is there a simple way to raise the default that without needing to recompile the kernel? I looked though the /proc directories and I do not see anything there. I have two 8 port serial cards, which bring my total serial ports to 18 with the two on the motherboard. The does system assigns ttyS* to the 2 onboard, and the first 6 on the first serial card. I can tweak these first 6 with setserial and they work My goal it avoid having to recompile the kernel from the stock disto. Thanks! ~Sean

Yum/Update anomolies: not a problem?

Today, got a wild hair and decided to check the update logs. I don't know why I want to destroy my perfectly reasonable sense of complacency at my advanced age... OOPS! Humor, sorry, retracted. Anyway, after googling and reading about half the posts related to the two sets of messages below, I have reached the tentative conclusion that this is not a major problem. Is this assessment correct? If not, can anyone point me to a reference that tells me how to correct it (them)? SME 7.x beta series is built on CentOS 4. So it also feels like RHEL. Give it a look see. Did you see my post from yesterday (titled 'Minimal Server Install') where Johnny Hughes said he managed to get Centos 4 down to 550mb ? Also, the tip from Ash Christopher to go here; http://www.owlriver.com/tips/tiny-centos/ is fairly useful. I was just providing a bit of background info by mentioning the reduced number of packages. Hi Johnny, Many thanks - your suggested fix of a new kernel works perfectly! My Opterons are happy once more :) Also - thanks Joshua for your advice: I last tried x86_64 with Whitebox 3, and had many problems with VMD, InsightII, Xeasy and MolMol - I'll have a go at 64bit again soon - has your 64bit experience been painless ? Is CentOS 3.5 built out of RHEL AS OR ES?

Hello Gurus, 1. Do you have any idea whether CentOS 3.5 is built out of RHEL AS or RHEL ES? 2. Can a single process use more than 32 Gbytes of RAM in CentOS 3.5 ? Is there any limitation that you experienced? Thanks for your time. Siva.

Hello, I'm looking to build a CentOS server (or servers) with a SAN to support a large user base. Question: if you had a budget of $25K (or more if necessary), what you build? I'm interested mainly what hardware and software is best supported by the OS, but anything you have to say on the subject is welcome. Thanks, Jack
