multipath failover

I got a chance to play a bit with new device-mapper-multipath. Unless I missed something obvios, docs seems to still be in the making. Could somebody point me to some docs for /etc/multipath.conf file? Couple of questions (I have very limited time I'll have access to hardware, sorry if I'm asking some obvious stuff). I managed to get things working by typing "multipath" from command line (the device in /dev/mapper created and working OK). However if I start using the device (create file system, mount it, do some I/O on it), and than unplug active path, after short delay I get failover to secondary path. However, by that time ext3 device driver decides something went wrong with the journal, and file system goes to read-only mode. I can unmount it and mount it again rw, but, hm, that's not why I have multiple paths. Any way around this? Is it possible to have root file system on multipathed device? Asking for support for that in Anaconda is probably too much to ask, but is it possible to do it by little manual work? If anyone would like to help test the latest RPM on Centos 3, heres your chance. There are several new features that are not mentioned in Jeff's email, but as he said he wants to make sure it does no harm more than anything else. As an example though, this version supports: - runtime depedency checking (think of being able to have cpan modules that weren't installed by rpm being detected, or crazy dependency like requires a particular processor of a particular stepping). - autorollback patches are worked in (this is still in progress and experimental, but, 4.4.3 will be the first official release of rpm with the latest autorollback code). There are other features add also, and of course many fixes. If you are wrestling with NPTL issues and rpm databases, then these packages will almost certainly help. Also note that I firmly believe that NPTL -- with unified thread and process locks -- is the best and most general choice for rpmdb locking. There are still uses for fcntl locking with, say, build trees for - NPTL legacy linux systesm, like rpmforge, and perhaps others, are doing, where fcntl locking is a far saner choice than posix mutexes because of the mixed +/-NPTL environment. Any/all help checking the CentOS3 rpm-4.4.3-0.34 is appreciated. I'm mainly interested in verifying rpm-4.4.3-0.34 does no harm. on CentOS3 (and RHL9) rather than testing of new features. You can only specify a remote SMTP server for PHP to use in Windows versions of PHP according to the .ini file. mail() function in php

Hi again, I just wonder if I need to setup email server (postfix,qmail,sendmail) in order to use mail() function in php? If not, what do I have to configure for mail() function to work properly? I'm using CentOS 4.2. Thanks for your help, JC

CentOS for axp and sparc arch (info)

Hi, I have initiated discussion about arch specific list at least twice among out core people to no avail, so i did make something i can do about it and created few list on host that i do admin myself. The reason for this is that this list is far too high traffic for most of discussion. I've personally received questions about arch specific lists as this is just too high traffic and people has just unsubscribed from this. http://upi.iki.fi/mailman/listinfo/ I don't make any promises about how long those lists are hosted, but i try to keep those forever. Install from CD bug

I commented on this a few posts back, but thought it was perhaps a fluke of mine, but I'm not so sure now. Tonight, I tried without success to install the mysql package from the 4.1 CD's and I got the same non-event as before. After selecting the package with "add/remove software", I checked the mysql box, then added the server and perl modules to complete things. The CD was in the tray, but tray was open. When prompted, I clicked OK, the tray inserted, and the drive spun up, but nothing happened. I briefly saw the CD appear on the desktop, then disappear, which it did before. I know its mounted, as when I open the icon for computer, and select the CD-RW drive, the file list pops into view. Is this something that occured due to the 4.2 update, or should I be still able to install software from the CD using the add/remove tool? Pkg add jumps right open when I manually clicked on the mysql package in the rpm list, so I know that part is working. Any way to debug this problem, as there are times when I'd like to be able to install straight from the CD vs. a yum install (like when Dag's repo is down as it is now) Sam -- Snowman
