Hi, Is there a reason why the iscsi-initiator-utils from RHEL differs from the original linux-iscsi one? I miss the mount-all and umount-all scripts. Without these, how can you safely reboot your server??? You're going to run into problems if you reboot your server without first umounting the iscsi-drives. cheers, -- Maarten

kde-file manager su mode

hi y'all, ...realize that maybe I should go to kde w/this but then, I do run centos on my systems soooo... kk I like to run kde's file manager in super user mode. On one of my systems, it's acting it's ass...as my default editor I do use kwrite and I normally set that up to open any text type file w/that but for some reason, on this one certain system, I can't navigate among the folders. I double click on a folder as I normally do and it just throws me into kwrite instead on just navigating down the tree. Just wondering if any of y'all might have some ideas to correct this simply. I just can't seem to find the right config option to do it. thx John Rose -- ...and I woke up 2 days later in the back yard talking to Elvis!

cdrecord Error (Permissions?)

List, Sorry to trouble anyone, a google on my error from k3b lead me to a permissions issue, but after searching through several of the links (including a few forums) I've failed to turn up exactly what the permissions should be or if that is even an accurate solution. When running k3b I get an error stating that cdrecord did not exit properly. And k3b will not burn a cd. Running cdrecord from the command line as such: /usr/bin/cdrecord -v gracetime=2 dev=/dev/hdd speed=40 -dao driveropts=burnfree -eject -data /home/fakeuser/cdimage.iso I am met with a Segmentation fault. There is no other error obviously. Any ideas? I'm running this as a regular user. Root does not encounter this problem. So the iso is perfectly fine. I am under the assumption that I inadvertently changed the permissions of cdrecord or somethin' else stupid happened. What permissions does cdrecord need to be run as a regular user or should I be using sudo to burn a cd using cdrecord anyhow? Should cdrecord be suid? Sorry to bother! Alex White

wireless protection with mixed network and is AES or TKIP better or other??

greetings in setting up a mixed network of CentOS, WinThings, Cisco, and more... i need a lil' feedback please re: practical wireless WPA settings... i always just used WPA PSK and TKIP by defauly (never thought about any issues here before, DUH!) yet i have done some reading while searching recently and it appeared to inform me that ummmm if using WPA-PSK that one should use AES instead of TKIP will i have issues/problems either way with installing CentOS in a wireless manner using AES or TKIP for that matter? again, most of this is about AES vs. TKIP from a engineering, performance, reliability and more standpoint... then of course CentOS integration etc... wisdom and comments from the list please? thank you in advance and kind regards, - rh -- Robert Hanson - Abba Communications Computer & Internet Services (509) 624-7159 - www.abbacomm.net

DAG repo problem

Hello list. Anybody noticed broken checksum in DAG repo? Since Saturday I can't update few packages from DAG repo. Problem enabling write-back cache for IBM ServeRAID controller in CENTOS 4.2

Hi, I have just upgraded an IBM Xseries x225 server to CentOS 4.2 (from CentOS 3.6) and found out that write back cache is not enabled for the drive representing the RAID array. The RAID controller has 128 MB battery backed cache. Write back cache is enabled in the controller configuration (using the IBM boot cd) and verified using the IBM RaidManager utility, but the boot messages show that the cache setup is write-through instead of write-back. scsi0 : IBM PCI ServeRAID 7.10.18 Build 731 <ServeRAID 6i> Vendor: IBM Model: SERVERAID Rev: 1.00 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 SCSI device sda: 213288960 512-byte hdwr sectors (109204 MB) SCSI device sda: drive cache: write through sda: sda1 sda2 If I boot CentOS 3.6 in rescue mode I have write back cache enabled. I have tried to use the sdparm utility to enable write back cache but it says that this parameter is not changeable. sdparm --get=WCE /dev/sda -6 /dev/sda: IBM SERVERAID 1.00 WCE 0 [Changeable: n, def: 0, saved: 0] I have looked at the ips module parameters but none seem to affect the write cache. Any ideas how to enable write back cache? Thanks, Radu

centos4.2:raid1:grub

Hi! Whew, I have googled around a lot w/this but can't quite seem to come up w/the right answer. This system works beautifully w/nothing wrong w/it. But my goal is to be able to test the raid system by just unplugging hda to mimic a faulty drive and have it just carry on and boot from hdc. md0 = hda1/hdc1 /boot (primary boot partitions on both drives) md1 = hda2/hdc2 / is it possible to just edit /boot/grub.conf??? I am really not sure of this Thx in advance. John Rose
