False begin and false end ?

I've started seeing these lines in my daily logs. Don't recall when they started, but I know for 2 days now. csgfs repo problem

I just took a brand new CentOS 4.2 x86_64 install, updated all of the base packages with yum, and then added the csgfs repo and attempted to install those packages. When I do the installation, I have a problem with one package: # yum install perl-Net-Telnet [ snip ] ============================================================================ = Package Arch Version Repository Size ============================================================================ = Installing: perl-Net-Telnet noarch 3.03-3 csgfs 51 k [ snip ] Package perl-Net-Telnet-3.03-3.noarch.rpm is not signed I know I can set gpgcheck=0 in the repo definition, but shouldn't this be fixed in the repo? Is there another way to specifically allow this one package to install without turning off gpg checks for the entire repo? Bowie

Modules installed in the wrong directory

I did a yum install of modules from the CentOS-csgfs repository (GFS-kernel, cman-kernel, etc). Modprobe does not find the modules. Upon investigation, I found that modprobe is looking in: /lib/modules/2.6.9-22.0.1.ELsmp/ while the package files were installed to: /lib/modules/2.6.9-22.0.1.EL/ Can I tell modprobe to use those modules somehow? Are modules for the smp kernel available? Or do I need to get the source rpms and recompile for the smp kernel myself? Bowie

Once it is up, I just let it run and run...nothing special. Most motherboards have "fake RAID" built-in. Have you tried going into the bios and setting those channels to standard IDE? If you bypass the raid, CentOS should be able to recognise the disks and install. If you still want raid, do it via software. Bowie

Yeah, we've had several generations of intel motherboards that we've used for desktops with Centos (EL4), Tao (EL3), and Red Hat before that (815, 845, 865, 915, and we're eval-ing a 945-based system right now). For the most part, they Just Work (tm). Intel's alsa drivers don't work with the (newest) 945 system. Also, you'll need to install/compile drivers if you want to use the integrated graphics on the 9x5G mobos, but intel's driver works with all the systems we've tried it on. Dave Thompson UW-Madison

It is an older socket 478 board and doesn't have a lot of temperature and fan speed monitoring, but it does have built-in video, sound, and network as well as support for SATA drives. Bowie

Kernel panic in usbserial.

To reproduce it: a) In a gnome-terminal im executing a bash script like this: FILE=/root/dump rm $FILE stty cs8 ignbrk cread clocal raw 4800 -echo $1 < /dev/ttyUSB0 killall cat cat /dev/ttyUSB0 | tee $FILE & cat > /dev/ttyUSB0 ; kill %% b) The other side is a modem with an available console via serial line where i connect the USB2serial cable c) From the modem power-on i start detecting hard font corruption in gnome-terminal, if i break the link (CTRL+C) and i perform the '$ reset' command, everything comes back ok, but after connecting again using the script im having the same thing if the modem restarts (no matter if there is a modem hard reset or sw reset, i mean, power on all the time in the modem) d) After few 'resets' in gnome console, the kernel panic is happening. Don't know where to send this panic, im sending it to this list, feel free to tell me if i have to inform others or use other reporting tools for kernel panics... help appreciated. compaq R4000 update (hogging interrupts)

After a couple hours last night.... doing a "killall -SIGUSR1 cpuspeed" bumps up the /proc/cpuinfo information for cpu mhz to 2393 Mhz. I did notice a little increase after that. However, the machine is still sluggish. I did a "hdparm -c 1 /dev/hda" but really did not notice any difference. I tried to download fglrx64_6_8_0_8.16.20-1.x86_64.rpm from ati (also 8.20.8) and get the screen to be in 1280x800. This did not work. The screen pops up initially for the boot process but then goes black. I waited quite some time but nothing ever showed on screen. Screen is still 800x600. Anyone have experience with the ati radeon 200M Express setup? Anyway at this time I am disappointed so far. the reason for buying this model (performance and portable) does not seem to be performing very well. I continue to search for ways to setup the screen and find these lost cycles... One thing in dmesg output is : ACPI: PCI interrupt link IRQs 10 11 *0, disabled????? Not sure what this is about. ************ I just noticed something else in dmesg... (entire dmesg posted below) waring: many lost ticks. Strange install problem

I am having a problem with CentOS-4.1 & CentOS-4.2 network installs. Before I file a bug, I was wondering if someone could test it on RHEL4 and see if it is a CentOS or RHEL bug. The problem is this. I am PXE booting into anaconda and loading a basic kickstart file via http. The kiskstart justs sets up the network & keyboard but does not start any install. I can then configure the install using anaconda. I used this fine with CentOS-3. However, in CentOS-4, if I use the graphical (X11) install, I can only select the minimal group of packages. If I do a text based install, I can select all packages. Normally it is the text mode install which is lacking so I assume this is a bug.
