Netcard don't up

Dear Friends I have 2 netcards (eth0 to Internet and eth1 to internal network) in CENTOS 4.2, bit when I boot system the up eth0 and et1i [OK]. When I run ifconfig the eth1 has not IP configure, then I run command ifdown eth1 and ifup eth1, after eth1 is work perfect. Below I show file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 # Please read /usr/share/doc/initscripts-*/sysconfig.txt # for the documentation of these parameters. IPV6INIT=no ONBOOT=yes USERCTL=no PEERDNS=yes TYPE=Ethernet DEVICE=eth1 HWADDR=00:60:08:3e:0a:d1 BOOTPROTO=none NETMASK=255.255.255.0 IPADDR=192.168.1.1 and route-eth1 GATEWAY0=192.168.1.1 NETMASK0=255.255.255.0 ADDRESS0=192.168.1.0 When I run ifup eth1 , follow messages show me. ifup eth1 RTNETLINK answers: File exists When I run command route -n , follow messages show me. # route -n 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth1 169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth1 But I don't know net 169.254.0.0. CENTOS3.6: taskset crash

Hello I am using memtester V4.0.5 on x86_64 arch (4x PROC-4GB total) and it works fine. When I want to launch it on only one CPU with the taskset cmd the machine crashes. here is the cmd i am using taskset 0x00000002 ./memester 1000 known issue ? Thanks Jean-Pierre

building a new kernel, problems booting without initrd

Hello all, Grabbed a new kernel (from kernel.org) to build a custom kernel but it won't boot. I followed the directions at redhat to setup a box without initrd (which I don't want and don't need to use). But the system hangs. Has anyone built a custom kernel without using initrd? I'm using CentOS 4.2. It hangs at or after "Freeing unused memory" Thanks. excerpt from the page: (http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/udev/) Udev without initrd Install Fedore Core as usual and reboot. Execute the following commands mkdir /tmp/dev mount --move /dev /tmp/dev sbin/MAKEDEV null console zero mount --move /tmp/dev /dev Install your kernel without an initrd. Reboot. You will get some SELinux errors, and syslogd will not work as expected.

rsync and passwords

To synchronize my server with the "standby" server, I run the following: rsync -a -e ssh /home/ 192.168.0.22:/home/ As expected, I am asked for a password from the destination computer. news server innd can't connect

I am setting up a news server and can't connect. I do not run selinux and have turned of the firewall when testing. # telnet 127.0.0.1 119 Trying 127.0.0.1... telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused the server I believe is up running # ps -efl | grep innd 4 S root 8340 4981 0 76 0 - 1094 pipe_w 13:18 pts/2 00:00:00 grep innd Are there anyone that can the answer why I cant connect? And what command can I use to see for how long the innd has been running? kai

OpenOffice startup help

I am using OpenOffice Quickstarter ( http://segfaultskde.berlios.de/index.php?content=oooqs ) to help speed up the loading of open office 2.0 when using KDE. Also, I've told KDE to issue the command oofromtemplate -invisible by putting it in a simple script in .kde/Autostart For some reason, when oooqs has the settings below (screenshot link - http://users.zoominternet.net/~ryanag/oofficeqs.png ) everything works perfectly. Open Office loads from a cold start in about 3.5 seconds. When I don't use the oooqs, the script does not work - it prevents open office from loading. Does anyone have any idea what oooqs is doing that makes my script work? Since I'm using Open Office 2.0 I don't expect to find anything in the official Red Hat docs.

Selecting a compatible motherboard

One of my servers is not compatible with Centos 4, so I want to replace the motherboard with a compatible one. I came across this site and would appreciate any comments on whether I can rely on selecting a board that is listed as compatible with Unix? http://www.dealtime.com/xPP-motherboards--asustek~V-rows For instance, the ASUS P5P800 Motherboard?
