Ok thanks to point me on the fstab file. Effectivelly for one raison I don't know yet the entry for the swap was strange and did not work. LABEL=SWAP-cciss/c0d0p swap swap defaults replaced by /dev/cciss/c0d0p3 swap swap defaults 0 0 and everything works with swapon cmd. Thanks again. I'm currently looking for a backup to disk solution for a new system and am curious how well Amanda would work. I've got a large raid partition that I want to backup onto a removable hard drive. The tricky part is that the filesystem is made up of over a million tiny (2-3k) files. Would Amanda be able to deal with that type of filesystem? Thanks, Bowie

SpamAssassin tends to use lots of RAM. As long as you can keep it out of swap, it runs great, but as soon as it runs out of memory and starts swapping, your performance will drop like a rock and probably cause mail to start piling up. Your machine should be fast enough to run ClamAV and SpamAssassin locally, as long as you increase the RAM. Bowie

CentOS 4.2 clean install -- can't print to officejet k60

Hello all, I have a new disk and installed CentOS there but I am unable to print. I thought the printer was having troubles because from the /var/log/cups/error_log everything appears to be working. The printer is not printing however. I attached the printer to a windoze 98 box and I could print fine. I had printing on my previous system(FC3) but this isn't working. If I can't print then I am dead in the water. From what I've read there are some contradictions the docs say that hpijs works with USB (and I think that's what FC3 used) but other docs say to use hpojs, but I don't see that in CentOS. I'm using KDE and the printer was config'd after the install completed. I turned on all the cups debugging. What other things can I try? Are there some raw commands I can send to the printer via echo or something like that? Is there a safe way to install hpojs on CentOS? Thanks.

Keeping data on 2 servers in sync !

I want to build 2 servers (both running samba) to provide file storage to 2 offices (approx 100 miles apart, linked via DSL) but all data writen to 1 server must also be saved to the other server. Both servers would also allow users to access the data via a VPN thus allowing 1 office with a failed server to access the other server via the vpn and still see the data from both offices. I currently have 1 server working but we want to add the second office to the system. (Currently 1 office has 10 users and the second office has 1 user connected via VPN ) but the second office will have 20 within 12 months and the first will have 35 soon )) Has anyone done anything like this ? I am currently reading & unpicking http://www.linux-ha.org/ to see what that gives me. Any clues/comments very welcome, even if you think I am mad ! Thanks Denis

Raid with one disk?

Is it possible to set up a single disk raid (kind of redundant to call a single disk an array) but I've got a single SATA drive in the machine not doing anything. It's a 10k maxtor 74G drive, and what I really want is just to backup two home partitions. I can always reinstall the OS, but the data can't be recovered that easily. The mobo supports raid-0,1 and jbod. Suggestions? -- Snowman

Hello It is my first question here and I would like to thanks all of you to keep alive this stream and to give answers (I regulary read). Thanks for the good job. After installing CENTOS4.2 and "play with" I type the command swapon -s to verify everythings is ok but the command does nor return info as it should do. Is it something known ?
