As a parallel question to my thread about CentOS for commercial use, here's a question I've been wondering about. How many of you who have RHEL licenses and paid support licenses have ever needed actually to request support? CentOS for commercial use

I'm a home user of CentOS (a desktop and a laptop) because I like the quality of the product and I love the cost. I'm a great believer in FOSS. That being said, I know that some of you use CentOS for production servers and (perhaps?) desktops as well. I've read at leat one comment like "I have 20 CentOS servers." My employer is a firm believer in RHEL - license costs are just a business decision. I would like to know how those of you who use CentOS in commercial endeavors justify the decsion - ethics, community vs. vendor support, etc., etc. I've heard many comments to the effect that we CentOS users are just leaches, since RedHat does the major work. CentOS 4 with MySQL 4.1

Greetings all! I have built a new server with MySQL and have noticed that before even doing anything to it I found that the MySQL logins were much slower than the 4.0 server I used prior to it. After moving data over to it, the application, (JFFNMS) when it would login to it would take forever getting data from it. It would finally get to a point where MySQL would not respond to anything including MySQLAdministrator. So I removed the 4.1 version that came with CentOS 4, I downloaded and installed the latest 4.0 version from the MySQL website and installed it and it is very fast even after moving the data to it. The problem I have is that I need php-mysql and perl-DBD-MySQL and when I install these two rpms, it removes the MySQL-server and MySQL-client rpm's that I retrieved from the MySQL website. So I am at a loss of what to do. I would prefere to go with MySQL 4.1 just because that is what comes with CentOS 4, short of that I need php-mysql to work with 4.0. Databases and custome building of RPM's is beyond my capabilities. Any assistance will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks Chris

DNS server with MySQL Backend

Just a quick question, Does anybody know of a good DNS server with MySQL backend? We're currently looking at MyDNS. Has anybody had any experience with MyDNS or other MySQL driven DNS servers under heavy load? Also, can anybody recommend a good DNS benchmarking utility? Thanks for your help, Bob. RHEL4 U1?

Anyone know if there is an ETA for RHEL4 U1 yet? There are a couple of important postgresql selinux fixes that haven't been prereleased for x86_64 that I'm after. Cheers, Gavin
