Gnumeric

Hi, I am trying to install Gnumeric in CentOS 4 and I can't. It complains about quite a few dependencies failing. It suggested installing some postgresql librairies, openldap librairies... I did that, now I still get: dependencies failed: libmdb/libmdbsq/libsqlite/libxbase/libtds. Is there a yum repository that has them or a yum repository for gnumeric? I have tried Dag, he does not, he has libgda, but that has other requirements... -- Thanks

Install Guide for PostFix (with DoveCot, SquirrelMail, MailScanner, ClamAV) on CentOS-4

Ok, I have been working (for quite a while) on an install guide for PostFix (with DoveCot, SquirrelMail, MailScanner, ClamAV) on CentOS-4. A full install is part 1 (Postfix / Dovecot / Cyrus-Sasl), Part 3 (SquirrelMail) and Part 4 (MailScanner, Spam Assassin, ClamAV). I am still working on Part 2 (Postfix / Cyrus-Imap / Cyrus-Sasl). It will go with Part 3 and Part 4 (same as above) to get a full install that includes Cyrus-Imapd instead of dovecot ... should be done with this one in the next couple days. So to reiterate, Part 1,3,4 is a full postfix/dovecot install ... it is done and ready to go. Parts 2,3,4 is a full postfix/cyrus-imapd install ... this one is not quite done yet. hi all, Where i can found docs about install Xen under CentOS 4 ?? (I only find docs for Fedora). Do I need a precompiled kernel or can I use binary kernel that comes with xen binaries??? I am hoping to find a inventory management program suitable for something like a bookstore or other 1-5 person smb. The software would need to be able to accept inputs from wireless handheld scanning devices for entry into the system. It must also work with their windows based PoS computer. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Nautilus / Desktop Icons

Hi, I've a nautilus problem with CentOS 4. It doesn't show the desktop items any more (also after dropping all gnome files/dirs from a users homedir) en the right mouse button menu also doesn't work. Googling around I've found various items about the problem but until now not a clear solution. Some people mention some 'browser mode in nautilus preferences'. But I can't get there. Even if I login with a KDE desktop I can't launch nautilus (nothing happens). Any ideas? I've SELinux enabled, I hope that's not related? kernel panic at install time centos-3.5-x86_64

I have successfully kickstarted 3.4 x86_64, but after updating my repo to 3.5 I see a kernel panic when it loads vmlinuz. Funny thing is that I had one box that would kernel panic while trying to install centos-3.4-x86_64, which then would install fine after updating to 3.5, but now my other mahcines will not kickstart. --

Sarah: RHSA tracking tool

Hi, I'm working on a RHSA tracking tool, named Sarah. It allows you to build a local RHSA database of different RHEL releases and then allows you to verify systems for compliance (and lists applicable RHSA and required packages). But before releasing my prototype, I would like to know what requirements people have. How they would be using such a tool and what for reports they need to extract. My main reason for writing such a tool is to automate reports to send out to customers for getting approval for updates during planned maintenance. My aim is to list the risk and information based on information provided by Red Hat. Another use case would be to send out emails either when new RHSAs are released or updates are made to existing RHSAs or sending out daily or weekly mails for systems that are lacking certain security updates. I bet other people have other requirements, so I like to hear about those. PS You may wonder what it offers on top on RHN. In fact it doesn't offer much more than RHN already provides. But in our environment, we don't have RHN access for our systems (some of them are not even connected to the Internet) and security policy does not allow this anyway. Plus a CLI tool that is able to access and process this information allows for some specialized use that RHN may not provide. Bright ideas are welcomed. DHCPd Config

I've read a number of articles, googled the web for a few months and now attempting at turning my CentOS box into a gateway for the third time. Configured my dhcpd.conf and other related files and all seems to be working, I can have my M$ desktop leasing an ip address and all. The problem is when I want to go out to the internet I keep on getting the Request Timed out error. I'm pretty sure I've followed the manuals to the letter. The hardware is working fine. Any clues or pointers would be very much appreciated. TIA, Joao

Hello, all - I've been throwing the question around on the kickstart-list for the last few days here, and can't quite get ahold of things. Please, allow me to explain. I am in the process of making a custom CentOS/RHEL kickstart install. It works well right now; however, it's a hackjob, and I am not comfortable with it as of yet. For the past few days, I've even gone as far as making a custom comps.xml file, for the purpose of the kickstart. What I'd like to do is not include any @groups or -/+files in my kickstart file; rather, I'd like to edit comps.xml's @Base and @Core so that I need nothing else in my kickstart file, except for the configuration options. I know that this isn't required, I'm just anal about the whole situation ;) This would also give me a chance to package, along with my install, newer and updated packages/RPMs so that I don't have to run an update process on the newly installed machine. My understanding is, if this is done, a new base/hdlist{2} file{s} is/are needed to be created. I've read around a bit, and apparently I'm supposed to use a tool named "genhdlist", but I've not been able to find any documentation on this tool, what exactly it does, and how exactly to use it. I'm expressing my frustration, along with many other people who have been in the same situation, as seen from the kickstart-list. I guess what I'm asking for, is if someone has ever made a completely custom kickstart install that does the following: 1) edits comps.xml to modify @base and @core 2) takes newer packages into consideration 3) compiles this information, creates new hdlist{2} reference files 4) gets the mother to work. This seemingly simple process seems to lack a bit of documentation. I ahve found sniplets all over the 'net where it would show a small process of how to get all this done, however, the author fails to document the utility or method in detail, or the process is for something totally archaic such as RH6.2. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -dant

Opteron Mobo Suggestions

I've been planning to build a dual Opteron server for awhile. I'd like to get people's suggestions on a suitable motherboard. I've looked at the Tyan K8SE (S2892) and K8SRE (S2891) but would like to find more Linux-specific experiences with these boards. Some features I expect are at least 4 SATA (SATA-300?) ports, serial console support in the BIOS, USB 2.0 and IEEE-1394 ports, low-end on-board video. Anyone care to share their experiences? I would like to know if anyone here has had good experience with this Supermicro motherboard.....http://supermicro.com/products/motherboard/P4/E7221/P8SCT.c… I am thinking about using it in an entry level mail and file server with a 3ware card and 200 GB SATA drives. Cost is a factor here otherwise I would go for an Opteron board instead. JC

I subscribed, and am getting emails hand over fist. They'll bust my inbox quota if I miss a day. I went to the web site for my subscription and tried to disable delivery; I'll follow this list on gmane or not at all -- and that works with every other mailman list I've tried. It wouldn't let me -- kept reverting to the password screen; I kept giving it the password, and making the change; and next time, the change was not there -- even though my password was letting me in. I sent an email to the address specified on the subscription website, asking for help. Installing Dag's RPMs

Hello, all - I wanted to know your guys' success rate when installing and rebuilding RPMs in CentOS (specifically 4.0) that have come from Dag's Repositories (http://dag.wieers.com/packages/) I have noticed a number of these packages stalling at various points throughout an rpmbuild process, and I can't quite get it. It looks almost as if they were all built for RHEL4.0, but if CentOS is supposed to follow so close in RHEL's footsteps, why would this be a problem? I'll give Dag an email and see if he has anything to say about that. Once I get enough information, I'll just go ahead and hack up the RPMs so that they work properly on my systems - but I thought I'd ask beforehand, as to not re-invent the wheel. Thanks! -dant

Postfix / Postini question

I have a mail server that handles several domains. One of these domains has decided to use Postini. For those not familiar with Postini, you set your MX records to use their mail servers. They filter mail, and deliver you only the clean virus/spam free mail. The idea is to only allow incoming mail from their mail servers so spammers are unable to send to your mail server directly. This is fairly simple to do with standard restriction classes for a dedicated mail server. I am not sure how to accomplish this on a shared mail server. Ideally I would like to instruct postfix to accept mail from anywhere for all domains except one domain (the one using Postini) and only allow mail destined for that specific domain to originate from Postini's mail servers. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Barry
