CentOS 4 snag with htaccess

I'm hitting a snag with htaccess. Have created .htaccess and .htpasswd files, set up apache directory options just like always... the exact same setup works fine on CentOS 3, but I can't seem to get it to authenticate on CentOS 4? Am I just being blind stupid (as in not seeing something 'exactly the same') or is there something different I'm missing? I have selinux running in warn mode I think it was, but not fully enabled. Open Office 1.9.x

Having used Open Office 1.9.x on the XP side of my box, I decided to install it on the CentOS side. (The default OO was 1.1.2, for heaven's sake!) I downloaded the Linux 386 version from the OO site. I immediately ran into problems-- 1) The installation instructions were for OO 1.x. 2) The download appears to be source RPMs. Although I've used UNIX & Linux for over 15 years, there are still some empty spots in my toolbox--and dealing with RPMs in one of them. (YUM is SO much nicer!) Has anyone added OO1.9.113 to CentOS? Where can I find info on what I need to do to get OO1.9.x added to my CentOS installation? Any help will be much appreciated! -mj-

Centos 4.1, ClamScan and Kernel Leaks

I recently installed ClamAV on my Centos 4.1 system (AMD Athlon 64 3500 +, 1GB RAM). I'm using postfix, with fetchmail to retrieve email from remote ISP accounts and processing emai through a spamfilter plugin, which is a shell script that passes inbounds through clamscan and spamassassin before handing it off to a local procmail for processing and delivery. Pror to installing ClamAV, the system stayed up for months at a time. Since then, I'm seeing a lot of system freezes and crashes, at least once per day. I'm also seeing a fair number of complaints in the boot log about ACPI errors and the like. I'm on kernel 2.6.9-11.EL. In the messages log, I can see where just prior to the system freeze, there are a sequence of messages regarding the system's inability to reset the USB adapter, of which no devices are attached. Almost immediately after, I see errors with the system gets error messages on read capacity on the hard drives. After this appears to reset itself, I start seeing kernel messages about available memory dropping from 1GB to less than 1MB. Any suggestions/advice? How to manually mount LVM partition

Hello list, For some strange reason, the hard drive on one of our servers crashed. The hard drive was using LVM and it was sending these messages during boot-up: EXT3-fs error (device dm-0): ext3_find_entry: reading directory ... EXT3-fs error (device dm-0): ext3_set_inode_loc: unable to read inode block= ... I want to be able to at least access the logical volumes inside that hard drive. How then do I manually mount the LVM partition when it is connected as slave in another computer? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! -- Stand before it and there is no beginning.
