PXE Install CentOS-4.1

I am setting up CentOS-4.1 so I can install it via PXE Boot. I have everything working except the only packages available for selection is the Minimal set. The other groups are grayed out and can't be selected. Any ideas? I have also discovered that anaconda does not follow http redirects which is a bit annoying. postrotate error

Running CentOS 4 w/ BlueQuartz on a whitebox, and getting this cron.daily email: /etc/cron.daily/logrotate: error: error running postrotate script Is this a common problem? Thoughts on a typical solution? thnx, Manny

Promise SATA support

Hi List I have a Promise SATA 300 TX ( NOT raid ) that do have RHEL4 driver, but this driver doesn’t work with CentOS4 Why? What can I do to get a driver that works? how do I install mailman in a mail cluster

I am trying to figure out the best way to install Mailman, or any other mailing list software in a mail cluster, i.e. two postfix smtp gatways, two squirrelmail webmail servers, failover cyrus imap servers.. I initially installed it on the same machine as the imap server since this is where the mail ends up and only is delivered through one machine. I have other just technical kludges, like propogating the mailman aliases to the smtp gateway so that it knows what is a local user. i.e. the smtp gateways check ldap to see if a local destination is actually valid before sending the mail to the cyrus mailstore via a postfix relay... How are other people solving this ?

Are PHP and MySQL running on my CentOS installation?

When I was installing CentOS, I noticed among the list of components that PHP and MySQL were available. I made sure they were selected because I develop a lot of web sites in PHP/MySQL, but I always do my testing on the server side. I thought it would be kind of cool if I could do the testing and development on my home machine. Which is a long way of saying that I think I have PHP/MySQL on my machine, but have no idea what the heck to do with them. I mean, I can script PHP and write queries for MySQL, but don't know anything about their set up and installation. I wrote a small test HTML page with basic head and body information, and simply this PHP in the body: <?php echo 'hello world': ?> And then opened it in FireFox. As expected, it didn't display anything. So I went to my trusty friend, Google, and asked about it. But it's one of those cases where people seem to assume that it's already installed, and if it's installed, it's already working. The PHP site itself says "We do not distribute UNIX/Linux binaries. Most Linux distributions come with PHP these days" and then not much else about running it. Am I going to find myself in a whole new world of confusing settings and configurations if I try to get PHP working on my home machine? Dave

Portsentry cause IPTable Reloads

I'm having some trouble with portsentry on CentOS. I've installed it and configured it to ignore my network. However, every 20 minutes, it reloads my iptables and basically kills any SSH sessions, etc. Any suggestions? Thanks, Todd

Two strange behaviours with dovecot+postfix+squirrelmail

The installation has dovecot-0.99.11 + postfix-2.1.5 and >600 mbox accessed email accounts. Number 1. Some users accessing thru squirremail (installed in my webserver) can read their INBOX at /var/spool/mail directory but when trying to delete a message they receive the following error message from squirrelmail: ERROR: Could not complete request. Consulta: COPY 1279 "mail/Trash" Reason Given: Internal error occured. Error report written to server log. [2005-09-16 15:08:04] and the error logged is the following: Sep 16 15:09:27 mail imap(username): mkdir_parents(/home/username//mail/.imap/Trash) failed: Permission denied I never stated that .imap/Trash when configuring dovecot and the strangest thing is that my account, as most of others, can delete messages moving from /var/spool/mail/my_name to /home/my_name/mail/Trash Number 2. Randomly, some users connecting from Mozilla Thunderbird via IMAP get an error message telling that there has been an error connecting to INBOX. Watching the maillog I found the following: Sep 16 13:07:43 mail imap(otheruser): File isn't in mbox format: /var/spool/mail/otheruser I accessed the user's inbox file with vi and found that there was a "--604" at the beginning of the file. In other case I found that the file was beginning with a truncated email message. Trying to "walk on the safer side", I changed the mbox_lock setting from "fcntl" to "dotlock" in the /etc/dovecot.conf file. Any suggestions and comments about his will be highly appreciated. Capturing audio streams with Linux?

So I got a new Pocket PC this weekend (yes, you read that right, sorry, don't like the Palms on offer currently and I can at least install software on it via Windows on VMWare). One of the main things I wanted to do with it is get Audible.com again and listen to All Things Considered from NPR on the way home like I used to. Now I find out they not only don't have an agreement with Audible any longer where I can pay them for this service, but now they are podcasting, but not the whole show. *sigh* So what to do.... My thinking is to capture the stream from local affiliate and time shift until I leave work. But how do I do this (I know how to use dump with mplayer for this) without getting one gigantic file? Anyone have any experience with this? Preston

Server Replication: CenOS, coda? lustre?

Hi list, our lab is divided in two sites and we would like to have a clone of the mail server on the second site for redundancy only (used in case of a lost of connectivity with the primary mail server, with the MX entries in the DNS the clone will receive the mails instead). The problem(s) comes with the mail partition who must be replicated and synchronized over the time (and over the net) to the cloned mail server, so the users can still access their mails while we deal with the primary server. My search leads me to the coda FS (and maybe the lustre solution, but we only use opensource soft so it may only be the one year old version - which is open...). Is there on the list people who are doing such things and if you are, can you give me some clues? What I think is something like a 'one read - multiple writes' FS who can handle the flow of mails and securely replicates it to the clone server. Do we have no choice but to tolerate the lost of some emails when the primary server stops responding? btw is it realistic? Thanks, Manuel
