SATA RAID Block

I'm looking to add a sata raid controller to my server, give it a terabyte of HDs and make a myth backend. I'm having trouble determining if this raid block is compatible with linux. Does anyone have any experience with this item? http://www.plinkusa.net/webBP-SATA3141B.htm

ntpd broadcastclient

This ntp.conf file works fine with RedHat Enterprise 3.0 and below. Please recommend a DVD writer for CentOS 4.1

Hi. I need to install DVD writers in a CentOS box as part of a backup setup. I want as little fuss as possible both with HW recognition and functionality. Can any of you recommend a vendor/product ? Performance of the drive is not an issue. I get confused looking at all the "+/-RW +R double layer yada yada" when skimming the hardware lists.. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks Morten

A little iptables help

Wondering if anyone is willing to give me a little assistance with some firewall rules. I think what I'm looking for is fairly simple, and I've been trying to use webmin's firewall module without success. I have a web server that I'd like to open up port 80 and forward a specific port for a select number of allowed ips. That's it. Everything else is dropped. allow: port 80 allow: forward port 8000 for x.x.x.x to y.y.y.y Anyone willing to assist with the rules? And lastly, how would I apply it in a way that it will always be in affect? If the machine reboots for example. Any help is appreciated. James

virtual interfaces

I have CentOS 4 running on an old (early model) p3 with 64 MB RAM. It is acting as a router and firewall for my LAN. CentOS is doing a really good job with Shorewall + DHCPd - on a 10 Mbps cable modem, I see ~ 9.7 Mbps of throughput even when numerous tcp streams to different LAN hosts are running. I would like to add a virtual interface to one of my LAN interfaces. My LAN interface (/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth2) looks like: DEVICE=eth2 BOOTPROTO=static BROADCAST=192.168.10.255 HWADDR=00:60:08:C3:F9:71 IPADDR=192.168.10.1 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 NETWORK=192.168.10.0 ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet would adding the below: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth2:0 DEVICE=eth2:0 BOOTPROTO=static BROADCAST=192.168.20.255 HWADDR=00:60:08:C3:F9:71 IPADDR=192.168.20.1 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 NETWORK=192.168.20.0 ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet Would this create a virtual interface eth0:0 with the IP address 192.168.20.1? OpenOffice MIME types not working on Centos 4

Hi. I have a problem with OpenOffice MIME types on Centos 4 when using KDE, it seems that konqueror does not recognize the file extensions. Gnome works fine. Any ideas?

NFS Mount - RH7.3 Server - CentOS 4.1 Client

Hi Just upgrading one of my dev servers - I'm replacing a current box that runs 7.3 to one that runs CentOS 4.1 Currently the 7.3 dev box talks to a fileserver also running 7.3 over NFS and that works fine. I'm now trying to get the CentOS 4.1 box to talk NFS to the 7.3 server. When i try and mount the NFS share on the CentOS box i get the following error # mount /mnt/cvs mount to NFS server 'Server Name' failed: server is down. Now i know the server is not down as the 7.3 client is connected fine. Anyone seen this before or know a work around? Nothing in any logs from client or server to give me any hints? thanks

centos 4 installed on P4 won't boot on P3

Hi, I installed centos 4 on a P4, configured it (and it booted fine here) then sent it to the DC to be put in a P3 but it won't boot, displays GRUB and halts. The DC guys tried grub-install in rescue mode but still the same. Any clues? Is there some difference between P3 and P4? thanks tom

Is there some difference between P3 and P4? Happends when the MotherBoard chipset differs to much (usually ide controllers) We had similar problems with P4 with via & intel chipset. You may nedd to do a new install on that p3.
