CentOS 3.6 won't poweroff

Hi, I have a Packard Bell notebook with CentOS 3.6 installed. When I want to turn off the computer everything goes OK until the power should be switched off ... but the display remains turned on with the last "power down" message on it .. until I press the button. Is there a fix for this? The kernel is 2.4.21-37.EL . Thanks, Adrian

recompiling kernel for centos 4.2 x86_64

Is it possible compile an a new x86_64 kernel on an i686 CentOS system? When I tried to do so with this command rpmbuild -ba --target x86_64 kernel-2.6.spec I got the following error: make[1]: *** [nonint_oldconfig] Error 51 make: *** [nonint_oldconfig] Error 2 error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.40130 (%build) RPM build errors: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.40130 (%build) Isn't gcc able to do cross compile?

Booting off and installing from USB cdrom drive

Hi all, I am trying to install CentOS from an external USB cdrom drive but am experiencing that anaconda does not recognize the device as cdrom device. Anyone have any experience with this and how to get it working ? After loading the appropriate usb-storage drivers the device is recognized and registered as /dev/sr0, but apparently that device is not checked or considered a cdrom device. Thanks, Taco

Kernel 2.6.9-22.0.2.ELsmp

Has anyone had any issues with this latest kernel? We rebooted our servers into this new kernel yesturday and our internet conectivity broke. I fiddled arround with some of the setting to get our machines talking to the net again with no success. It seems that we are able to talk to local hosts on our network, but anything external is broken. I gave up in the end and resorted to the previous kernel. Has anyone experienced the same sort of problem? Regards, Peter
