grub errors after fresh install, partiions with md and lvm

I've done a fresh install on a new system with 2 SATA drives, Seagate 80GB each. This is the first time I've done an installation where I used software raid to provide mirroring capability to the system. The raid is level 1 for mirroring. I used the installation documention on RedHat's enterprise site to go thru the installation/configuration for this. I didn't receive any errors during the installation, but after the system boots grub issues the following messages: ================================================================================ grub loading stage1.5. Error 15 ================================================================================ Using the anaconda graphical installer, I've partitioned the drives as follows: /dev/sda /dev/sdb /dev/sda1 100mb /dev/md0 /boot /dev/sda2 76215mb /dev/md1 LVM VolGroup00 /dev/sdb1 100mb /dev/md0 /boot /dev/sdb2 76215mb /dev/md1 LVM VolGroup00 VolGroup00 76192mb LogVol00 swap 2048mb LogVol01 /root ext3 20480mb LogVol02 /home ext3 20480mb During my research into the error above, it appears as though grub cannot find the /boot partition to continue loading the subsequent stages. I'm hoping to find some general help from the list if possible. A couple of questions come to mind. Can grub boot off of a raid defined partition? If yes, what magic incantations would be appropriate? If no, should I just revert to a bare ext3 partition and don't implement raid on /boot? Relavant parts of /boot/grub/grub.conf are: default=0 timeout=5 splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/spalsh.xmp.gz hiddenmenu title CentOS-4 i386 (2.6.9-22.EL) root (hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.9-22.EL ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01 initrd /initrd-2.6.9-22.EL.img And this is CentOS 4.2.

vpn error message log

does anyone know much about vpns and the error messages in the logs? I have one saying Informational Exchange is for an unknown (expired?) SA if anyone has a clue what that really means...that would be great. -- Andrew Rice Jr

clamscan --exclude problems

this is strange to me but maybe not to y'all I use clamscan --exclude in other places but this certain one will not work... let me put up my fstab before I explain k: # This file is edited by fstab-sync - see 'man fstab-sync' for details LABEL=/ / ext3 defaults 1 1 LABEL=/boot1 /boot ext3 defaults 1 2 none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0 none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 LABEL=/rbbu /rbbu ext3 defaults 1 2 none /sys sysfs defaults 0 0 LABEL=SWAP-hda2 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/hdb /media/cdrecorder auto pamconsole,exec,noauto,managed 0 0 /dev/fd0 /media/floppy auto pamconsole,exec,noauto,managed 0 0 kk...the line: LABEL=/rbbu /rbbu is hdc. it's a 250gb drive just to act as a backup server for various machines. I want to clamscan the whole system excluding /rbbu clamscan --exclude=/rbbu / just a very basic line...of course there is much more to the real one but this is the problem child. considering the LABEL=/rbbu and /rbbu being the mount point ....I believe this might be where the problem lies but I'm not sure. If I must, I could rename the mount point to something else and now thinking bout it, would not cause that many problems...just a lot of tweaking in lots of scripts which I would rather not but if y'all feel that's the fix then it will be done! thx, John Rose

correct driver for X

I found the following page for the k8m800 motherboard. Everything I have found from via is sub par to say the least. It has a via_drv.o file that "seems" to do something. (cant see as I'm home). hope this helps someone else... http://leenooks.com/233 jerry ------ VIA's support for their Unichrome chipsets on Linux is a little lacking. I got a system with one of these. It even had Linspire preinstalled, and running in vesa mode. There's a project for this, but from reading their site it looks they don't have the Unichrome Pro working well yet. http://unichrome.sourceforge.net/ You might try buying one in this case. Even most of the cheapest should give a significant improvement, provided that they have 3d support and working Linux drivers. correct driver for X

I have and new motherboard and trying to get X going. it starts at 800x600 and vesa driver... I have tried via (I get not driver found) I have tried S3 I have tried savage None of these work. I tried them all as I was getting conflicting information on the net about which driver it is. below is lspci -v Any suggestions on what to try? K8MM motherboard with S3 unichrome on x86_64

I have a new K8MM motherboard AMD x86_64 3000+ with the S3 unichrome chipset. The default xorg.conf used vesa driver whichs gives 800x600. I tried to change the driver to via and the x log file says via not found. Is something missing in x86_64 or did I miss something? Jerry
