adding a usb drive to an existing raid1 set

it seems like I keep running into a wall. I partitioned it to the same specs as the 2 ide drives as per the bottom of fdisk -l. Now, trying to go by: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/admin-guide/ 5.9.8.2 Creating RAID Arrays they state the following: Next, it is necessary to create the /etc/raidtab file. This file is responsible for the proper configuration of all RAID arrays on your system. The file format (which is documented in the raidtab(5) man page) is relatively straightforward. Here is an example /etc/raidtab entry for a RAID 1 array: ummm...1.)I think this is part of the old raidtools thang...not mdadm but I am not sure. 2.) there is no man raidtab on this box which is a "everything" install.. so considering this..lol I'm lost. kk, right now...I just formatted all the partitions and (I should have done this before ) I am checking for bad blocks. If it finds some I'll just redo it or whatever I have to do. At one point I was able to mdadm /dev/md0 1 & 2 --add sda1 2 &3 and cat /proc/mdstat would show sda1 2 &3 as in the arrays but then they would not populate. I can't remember but I think I gave them mount points but wait, I was having a hard time finding the proper syntax for that as well anyway, after rebooting...it was all gone. this ain't nice thx John Rose

The only other device in the system is the built in fasttrax and of course the 2 intel nics and a rage something video card everything is built in except the SCSI. Problems with MySQL

Hello, Sorry for posting this here, but i've posted in MySQL list and no one answered. I'm trying to set a password for a user with the command: mysql> set password for gamito@localhost=password('blabla'); but i always get the error: ERROR 1133 (42000): Can't find any matching row in the user table although i'm pretty sure that the user exists. I'm using MySQL version 4.1.20 from CentOS 4.4 This neves happened to me :( Any help would be appreciated. Best Regards, AR

Hello all this is my first post to this list so i would like to than you all in advance for your time and consideration. I am in the process of building a new server and have purchased some used hardware. There seems to be some hardware issuses and i am hoping nothing was damaged during shipping. However i am in contact with intel and we are tring to figure out the exact problem via email. So i have insalled centos 4 from the four CD set and have done all the updates through the GUI. I must say a GUI in Linux land is nice have been working mostly on old FreeBSD boxes none of which have GUI installed. Anyways the above mentioned hardware is this INTEL SR2300 CHASSIS INTEL SE7500WV2 MAINBOARD INTEL (DUAL) XEON P4 2GHZ CPU HP 1G ECC RAM ADAPTEC 29160LP SCSI CONTROLLER PROMISE FASTRAC SOMETHING OR OTHER has nothing attached to it anyhow. I have four Seagate Cheetas 147G 10.6K SCSI harddrive most are firmware version 0006 (been meaning to update this to 00007 before i go to production) HERE IS MY PROBLEM ======================================= When i boot up the machine i get this error off the getgo PCI unable to handle 64bit address space for ========================================================== Everything seems to work fine but i am woundering before i go any further should i be installing the 64bit version of Centos on this machine? OT: Precautions before draining laptop battery?

Hi, I have found some advice on the web regarding battery draining, but no linux-specific information. Are there some steps to be taken to protect the harddrive? Unmounting file-systems? I would appreciate any advice. Itay

How about a simple sanity check in the startup script? ping -c 4 192.168.140.13 Put that in before you attempt to mount the filesystem to make sure there aren't network problems. -- Bowie

Hi everyone, I suspect that Apache 2.0.52 as distributed with CentOS has a memory leak issue. Is anyone aware of this? Problem with NFS mount after upgrade to 4.4

Hello After i have upgraded to centos 4.4 i have a problem during the boot with NFS, CentOS can't mount NFS shares: Oct 2 11:47:28 s2 mount: mount: mount to NFS server '192.168.140.13' failed: Oct 2 11:47:28 s2 mount: System Error: No route to host. Oct 2 11:47:34 s2 mount: mount: mount to NFS server '192.168.140.13' failed: Oct 2 11:47:34 s2 mount: System Error: No route to host. Oct 2 11:47:40 s2 mount: mount: mount to NFS server '192.168.140.13' failed: Oct 2 11:47:40 s2 mount: System Error: No route to host. Oct 2 11:47:40 s2 netfs: Mounting NFS filesystems: failed Oct 2 11:47:40 s2 netfs: Mounting other filesystems: succeeded This CentOS is only a client NFS. If i run "/etc/init.d/netfs start" shares are mount regolary. It can't be a network problem, the only one changes i have made to this server is upgrade from 4.3 to 4.4. Why this? Thanks
