Global Address Book on Centos4.0

hey friends, I am using postfix on Centos4.0 as mailserver. I am looking for a global address book solution means every email client in my network whether outlook, outlookexpress, thunderbird, kmail, evolution etc. can find the user's email ids from that address book. LDAP has such feature but I am not able to find any good howto or Is there any other solution ? Please let me know if you need any further inputs. Thanks & Regards Ankush Grover

Usb flashdisks automount by all users?

Hi I'm using Centos 4.3 / gnome When I plug a usb flash disk as root, the drive is automounted and the icon shows up on the desktop (nice). But with any other user when I plug any usb drive there's no icon on the desktop, and if i open computer, the icon is there but if i try to open it there's an error message saying that only root can mount that drive. I've tried some things like editing the fstab but with no success. what should i bee looking for here? thank you, Daniel

Build a shared disk, shared cpu, shared ram....supercomputing for expanding websites

Hey Group, We are trying to build a shared disk, shared cpu, shared ram....using a dell power edge servers.....which can utilize our server resource for our expanding website. We are running RHEL4 on dell power edges. Can anyone suggest any good production ready open source solution running on top of 2.6 kernel that might work for us? I have looked at openMosix which has only 2.4 kernel production ready and openSSI which has only 1.2 tested on 2.4 kernel and 1.9 still in testing. Is there any solution which can work with 2.6 kernel. Also IF POSSIBLE we would like to integrate the solution with Xen3.0.2. Can anyone suggest us a good open source solutions which migh work in our case? Thanks a lot. Regards, Saptarshi Naha

Need help - Install Driver for Video Capture Card

Hi everybody, I need help to install driver for video card. I have physically installed two video capture card on two different computers. Both running Linux CentOS release 4.4 (final), and kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp. The first computer is Pentium D 3.00 GHz, 1Gbyte RAM. The second computer is AMD Athlon 2800+, 1 Gbyte RAM. I succesfully installed opencv-0.9.7 on both computers with gtk+ 2.x, libjpeg, zlib, libpng, libtiff, ffmpeg, dc1394, raw1394 and V4L pre-installed. Opencv running very well on both computers. I installed Hauppauge ImpactVCB (model 558) on Pentium D machine, while on Athlon machine, I installed I-O Data GV-VCP2M/PCI. After physically installing the cards, I installed the bttv-0.9.15 driver on both machine according to the instru8ction given by : http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-mini/BTTV.html, with exception that I did not recompile the kernel as instructed if the machine does not has the videodev.o, bttv.o, and tuner.o. Both machines do not have the files mentioned above. After completed installation, I could capture videos through the cards on both machines. However, if i restarted the machines, I could not capture any video anymore. I have to repeat the process of loading the modules as follow: - sync; sleep 1; sync - modprobe videodev - modprove bttv Would anyone help me solve this problems. I already write in the modprobe.conf file the following: Pentium D machine: alias char-major-89 i2c-dev options i2c-core i2c=debug=1 options i2c-algo-bit bit=test=1 alias char-major-81 videodev alias char-major-81-0 bttv option bttv card=10 Athlon machine: alias char -majorp-81 alias char-major-81 bttv options bttv card=2 I really do not remember where I got the codes, and I also not very sure whether they are correct or not. Hyperthreaded CPU and SMP kernel

Hi gang! I'm using Centos 4.4 at work on a HP Proliant DL320 G2, which has a Hypterthreaded Pentium IV CPU. I used to use RHEL WS 2.1 on it, and RH installed and used the SMP kernel. Centos 4.4 did NOT install the SMP kernel. Is there some reason why I should NOT install it myself? I.e., some reason why an SMP kernel shouldn't be used on such a machine? In the early days of Linux, the great thing about Linux was that you COULD customize it to make do whatever you wanted. Then RHEL came along, and RH spread Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt about using Linux this way... If you need to make the card work, go ahead and customize the kernel. If you're a professional system admin, your job is to make things work. A few crashes here and there are better then employess who can't get the job done at all. If stability is the issue, using CentOS is much better than FC6 (or any other FC). FC is meant to be bleeding edge, and not stable. Thats my 3 cents. AACRAID controller setup?

This isn't exactly a Centos question but maybe someone here can help: Does the AACRAID controller (as in an IBM 3550) store its config info on the drives or internally? I only have one of the boxes and want to load Centos 3.x on several drives which can be swapped into servers at another location. With SCSI, all that took was a full disk dd copy and a little fiddling with the HWADDR for the nics. However these don't even see a disk until you run the raid setup in bios. Does anyone know if a new server will recognize the setup (one drive, no raid) from the cloned disk or what it will take to make it accept the swap? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell(a)gmail.com

Experiences with CentOS & MacBook Pro?

Ok, I'm finally of a mindset to replace my now tired, aging Dell Inspiron 600m. I'm currently running Fedora Core on it, and am fairly happy with the software. Has anybody used CentOS on a Macbook Pro? What gotchas are there? (The first that comes to mind is the lack of a right mousebutton) Scouting on the Internet, I've seen that some people have trouble getting sound to work. I'm interested in the following: 1) Network/Wifi support 2) Sound 3) Video (don't need 3D, currently using 2D ATI Radeon drivers and am happy) 4) USB support (works?) 5) External video - I frequently have to give presentations! seamonkey and new command mozilla-xremote-client

All, For 4.4 mozilla is out and seamonkey is in. In the old mozilla there was no command mozilla-xremote-client. In the new seamonkey there is a command mozilla-xremote-client. Under mozilla you could do "mozilla -remote "openurl(www.cnn.com)" and it would set the current page to the url. Trying this under seamonkey does not work. however, I just found the new command mozilla-xremote-client that does work now for seamonkey. My question is the command is only /usr/lib64/mozilla-seamonkey-1.0.5/ this directory and /usr/lib64/mozilla* has mozilla mozilla-1.7.12 mozilla-seamonkey-1.0.3 mozilla-seamonkey-1.0.5 Is it an oversite that the mozilla-xremote-client is not in the "normal" bin places? After updates I can manually go out to machines and change sym links or anything how can a sym link automatically be updated to the new mozilla-xremote-client after a yum update? Thanks, Jerry

Anyone have the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-350 card running on CentOS 4.X? What about MythTV? One of my users asked me today to upgrade the kernel on his CentOS 4.4 system today as he claims that this card will only work on recent kernels (2.6.16 or newer).
