Can Synaptic be used successfully on CentOS 4.4 instead of YumEx ? Are there any issues using Synaptic with the CentOS 4.4 repositories ?

MCP61 asus motherboard not work under 4.4

I just received an MCP61 based motherboard from asus. The install from local cd works. However, the network does not. I am attempting to use 2.6.18.1 kernel on the machine. Indications are it may work. Come on 5.0, I'm ready for the updated kernel. Jerry

php5 in centosplus update?

The recent htmlentities/htmlspecialchars bug was affecting all versions of PHP older than 5.2.0. With that in mind, I was just wondering if there is any timeframe to release a fix in centosplus repository for PHP5 package? strange missing dependency message from daily yum update

I am getting a missing dependency message for libx264.so.54 is needed by package mplayer. The yum check-update for packages doesn't even show mplayer is to be updated. That library is in /us/bin on my system and when I run the mplayer that I have that's allready installed it runs fine. A ldd on mplayer shows it is referring to the correct /usr/bin/libx264.so.254.so.54. Why is yum failing to do the daily yum update? -- Richard Miles Federal Way WA. USA registered linux user 46097

Hi Folks, I'm looking for a programm to record voices via a microphon. I think KRecord is such a programm, but I can not find it in yum-repos. There a any hints to solve my problem? I'm using CentOS 4.4 Thx Timothy

Deleting packages

When choosing to delete packages, Synaptic will tell the user what other packages are dependant and therefore have to be added to the delete list also, and then will automatically add those dependant packages to the delete list if one chooses to go ahead with the original package deletion. I did not notice such functionality in YumEx. Does it exist ? If it does not exist, is it possible to use Synaptic under CentOS 4.4 with the rpm repositories and have it work correctly ? In general I like the Synaptic interface and functionality better than the YumEx functionality. I do understand that there is an updated version of YumEx for Yum 3.0+, but since CentOS is still on an earlier version of Yum, it can not be used.
