Desktop cleared after reboot through VNC

Hello all, After issuing the reboot command on my CentOS server while being logged in through VNC and after the machine has actually rebooted, I get a blank desktop (no icons and not my default wall paper) when logging into X, whether I'm on the console or logging in through VNC. If I go into my Desktop folder in my home directory, I see all the appropriate .desktop files (but I don't see the icons on my actual desktop). When I go to the Preferences->Desktop menu, the desktop preferences application hangs. My toolbars, and default xclock at startup are all there, it's just that my desktop is a solid blue wallpaper (not my default CentOS wallpaper) and I have no icons on it. I guess I corrupted the desktop when I rebooted through VNC but I don't know how to get it back. Is there a way of retrieving this without having to delete this user and creating a new one? Segmentation fault on LVM

Hi all, I have installed rhcs on a CentOS 4.4 server with clvmd. Hi, I am trying to install OTRS on centos 4.4. I keep getting Warning: Kernel/Config.pm isn't writable! when i try to run the installer. I have done chmod 777 on the Config.pm file etc but still it will not work. I also did "chown Config.pm apache" and that did not work either. Please can someone help me. This looks like a simple issue which i cannot able to solve. below is the error. files in a directory limitation

Just curious but is there a limitation on the number of files in a directory? I am using ext3. I'm not concerned about file size just the number of files. Thanks, Jerry

Mirroring CentOS problem.

I have two servers that, one time in a week, make a mirror o CentOS distribution, the mirroring come from two different italian servers but all the mirrors process stops with this message: sent 267 bytes received 374865 bytes 44133.18 bytes/sec total size is 6472762072 speedup is 17254.63 rsync error: some files could not be transferred (code 23) at main.c(1146) What's the problem? Beagled on CentOS 4.4?

I'm needing a way to full text index a bunch of pdfs so that I can search them from a web front end. Beagle would be ideal. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending upon your viewpoint), mono, and mono apps, will likely never see the light of day in RHEL. I'm looking for the most straightforward way to get beagle installed. I don't need the gnome gui, just beaglelib, beagled, and beagle-query. rpmforge has an old version of mono (1.0.6). But no beagle. I could try with the FC6 SRPMS, but something tells me I'd run into problems, so I figured I'd ask here first. Thanks

Problems with LTO-3 and U320 on Centos 4.4

I am currently testing an Overland Tape storage unit with a LTO-3 drive on CentOS 4.4. After a random amount of time but usually when we have backed up about 0.5-1TB we get scsi errors which cause the backup to fail. I have rebuilt the box with Solaris 10 x86 and Windoze to prove the hardware and have successfully backed up over 3TB on each OS without error. Can anyone offer advice on how to find out what is causing the error in CentOS. pptp, ipsec and vpn

Hi All, This is a general VPN question; PPTP VPNs seem to be very easy to set up with CentOS as the VPN server and the built-in windose client, but how do list members feel about the security vunerabilities reported with the MS implementation? Specifically the 6 problems reported here : http://www.schneier.com/pptp-faq.html or maybe im being paranoid? Would any of you roll this solution out using the MS client for business use? I generally dont trust anything MS does, especially when security is concerned I feel i should be leaning towards an IPSec VPN, would anyone agree? Since I had plenty of terabytes of storage, having compression on the files wasn't a requirement. One of my requirements was not having a gui to configure things, or do restores.
