large disk volumes with 64bit kernel

I installed 4.4 on a machine that's got two RAID volumes, one of which is a bit over 2.1 terabytes. The installer had no problem. However, fsck does. Commenting out the volume in /etc/fstab, the machine will boot. The machine will mount the volume and use it. Everything seems fine except fsck, which seems, well, fscked. When trying to run fsck, it says: # fsck /dev/sdb1 fsck 1.35 (28-Feb-2004) e2fsck 1.35 (28-Feb-2004) The filesystem size (according to the superblock) is 549346683 blocks The physical size of the device is 12475771 blocks Either the superblock or the partition table is likely to be corrupt! Abort<y>? yes Is there some way to build single volumes larger than 2TB? It should not be a problem with a 64 bit OS (Windows managed to do it on this hardware before I switched it over to Linux). Is there some tuning I need? Any pointers to documents or other useful references would be appreciated. Thanks for any/all help. It looks like postfix is trying to deliver your mail to a directory that is actually a file. I'd troubleshoot that. If you get nowhere with this I would suggest posting your errors (full logs of the event) and configuration (postconf -n output) to the postfix mailing list. alex

Ext2/3 fs and defragmentationn

Hi all, Fewer days ago a CentOS box server suffered a manual and unexpected reset (too large to explain: there are silly people in everywhere). The result was the system did not mount de root (/) partition and the boot process was stopped. I repair it easily: boot from LiveCD (Knoppix in my case), umount root partition and pass the e2fsck utility. Because of that I've used several fs tools and my surprise was the e2defrag utility. Until the present day I think the ext2/3 fs has not defrag problem. But I've used defrag tools in root partition because it was really fragmented. ¿What do you know about this kind of "trouble"? 4.4/64-bit Supermicro/ Nvidia Sata RAID Driver

Hi, I am installing Centos ServerCD 4.4 64-bit on a new Supermicro board, the RAID BIOS looks fine, RAID 5, all 4 Seagate ES 250 GB drives show up as a single array in the RAID BIOS tool, and the OS install phase completes without a hitch. One thing I noticed was that the OS was loading the sata_nv driver and picking up the 4 Sata drives instead of the large RAID5 volume, it should just appear as one big 1TB drive. Usually it should see the RAID and not worry about loading the sata driver per se from what I remember... When the OS install completes and I reboot, I simply get a blinking cursor. On consulting Amax/ Supermicro, they write: ---snip---- Since this Supermicro model was just recently released, it is possible that the drivers on your installation disk are out of date. Supermicro suggested downloading the latest Redhat Driver from their FTP Site at: ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/driver/SATA/nVidia/MCP55/Linux/Redhat choose either: For 32-bit File: nvsata-rhel4.4-0.11-1.21.i686.img <ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/driver/SATA/nVidia/MCP55/Linux/Redhat/nvsata-rhel4…> 1440 KB 7:03:00 PM or for 64-bit File: nvsata-rhel4.4-0.11-1.21.x86_64.img <ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/driver/SATA/nVidia/MCP55/Linux/Redhat/nvsata-rhel4…> 1440 KB 7:04:00 PM ----snip---- My question is how, during the install, do I specify this driver? Right now the OS simply reads out sata_nv as it progresses, but I see no interrupt point where it allows one to 're-specify' or otherwise encourage the OS to utilize this updated .img file supermicro is suggesting. Any suggestions on the step-by-step sequence for this? bonus/ p.s. -anyone had any experience with the Nvidia onboard RAID/ Supermicros? Did you like it, (I'm an LSI-Logic fan myself), just looking for opinions... -karlski

HP nw8240 xorg failing after update

having had centos running fineon my nw8240 laptop I recently decided to try doing an update, now X wont start up - its keep reporting problems with various gnome libraries missing, if I look in /usr/lib there are some links to files that no longer exist or are different versions i.e. libgnomecanvase-2.so.0 instead of libgnomecanvas-2.so. Is there a simple method of rolling back ? or of getting the ati driver and gnome to work again ? Ian

question on 'VGA in" card

Hi All, Is there a solution under linux that can accept video in from another source and show it but also be able to turn that source off (in an automated way) and show the normal linux console. Then (in an automated way) switch back and show the external source again. So I want to normally be showing an external VGA input, then based on some event switch the monitor output to the normal linux console, then based on another event switch back to the external VGA signal again. mysql issue

I am using the following command: mysql -u cgalliance -p cgatesting < cgavb3.gz I then type in the correct password and i get this returned: ERROR at line 1: Unknown command '\'. [Fwd: Server is overloaded, any tips?]

Yesterday our website was acting a little odd, and i received a few email complaints. Running 'top' showed that we had a very high load average, today the load average is even higher! load average: 13.18, 12.49, 10.48 It is pretty unlikely that our site grew in popularity that quickly, and taking a look at the log file it was saying that a certain directory was not found, when in fact it was just a mod-re-write rule and was not supposed to exist. The website works fine... i am stumped and the error log is getting quite big! Does anyone have any tips on how to find the problem and address it accordingly (quickly)? Many thanks
