Motherboard recommendations

I have been building my systems with Abit IS-10 motherboards, but NewEgg has stopped carrying them, so I need to switch to something new. Does anyone have any recommendations on a solid motherboard that works well with CentOS? I need a motherboard with built-in video, LAN, and SATA. I don't need RAID or any other fancy features, just something cheap and solid. I've been looking around, but there are lots of boards that look like they would work and I know nothing about any of them. I was just wondering what you guys are using. Thanks. -- Bowie

suslog alternate log file

I have a cisco router sending syslog messages to a linux server. I've been looking around on how to log those into a separate file and I've run across using local7 in various howtos. It looks like you can have 8 different local log settings, but I can't seem to find any docs on how to set those up. Anyone have a howto on that?

sk98lin Gigabit Ethernet

Is anyone using sk98lin Gigabit Ethernet adapters under CentOS 4.x? The version of the driver that ships with CentOS 4.x kernels was too old to support the onboard NICs on some Intel server boards that we recently got, so we installed a newer driver using DKMS. However, we're having problems finding a stable driver to use: the first version that we tried (7.09) gave a kernel panic when I ran ethtool, and the latest two versions (8.30 and 8.31) periodically lose network connectivity and give kernel errors similar to the following: KERNEL: assertion (flags & MSG_PEEK) failed at net/ipv4/tcp.c (1293) UDP: bad checksum. From 10.0.0.1:53 to 10.0.0.2:58409 ulen 118 UDP: short packet: From 10.0.0.20:138 191/20 to 10.0.0.255:138 I saw that skge is recommended as a replacement for sk98lin, so I tried recompiling a skge module based on the patch at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=167768, but it failed to recognize my card. (I may have compiled it incorrectly.) Can anyone recommend a version of the sk98lin driver that works reliably? Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good Gigabit NIC that's recognized by a stock CentOS 4.x kernel? Thanks. Josh Kelley

Hi, I have a server that has been running Centos for about a year but I have not checked to see if there have been any changes to update. Has there been any updates or fixes for the update? wired network switch to wireless if not active

All, I am wondering how one PC with a wired and wireless connection can have the wired IP active as long as there is a connection then if the wired connection goes away to then automatically, go wireless, then if wired comes back alive go back to wired. Is that kind of setup possible, if so how. This unit is always on - I just want whichever network is active and faster to be the active connection. The IP addresses for wired would 192.168.1.10 and wireless 192.168.1.20. GW is 192.168.1.1. Thanks, Jerry

Kickstart is my friend

I just had to change the install command to use ftp. I had to uncomment all of the drive partitioning commands. At first I was confused as to the partitioning failure, then figured out that the partitioning commands were commented out. Most likely to prevent an unwanted disk clearing. Only things: Did stop at the bootup to create a user id. Not a big deal in this case, as I was logging on as root to do a yum update. X was started to give me a progress of the install. So I will want to figure out how to get that in character mode next time. Just on general principles. The time to learn Kickstart was **LESS** than going through a manual install with the network, drive, and apps configuration steps.

DNS Setting

Hello People, In my DNS setting I added A record of www for our company website. It works, when you go to http://www.mycompany.com; it resolves and it shows the website content. But in addition, I want also some kind of redirection or mapping (i don't know what you called that) that when people go to http://mycompany.com (without www), it should forward also to the www server. How to do it? Thanks in advance. S.Tux
