to <cr> or not

I have had some success (read no noticed problems), moving some text conf files from a Win <cr,lf> format to Linux and have them work. For example my zone files, moving them from my Win DNS server. But what about other files? I guess I want to know this more to prevent a mistake from crashing things, as I do have GEDIT. If I were to build an anaconda-ks.cfg in notepad, write it to a floppy then did a linux ks=floppy, would it work? I have search the archives and google, but either I am missing the right search words, or something.

yum/x86_64

Starting from the 4.2 Server install on x86_64 I did a "yum update", then "yum install openssl openssl-utils" and it appears to have installed an assortment of i386 programs and libs. How do I get rid of the wrong ones? Specifically, what I want is the right stuff to run the beta VMware server. It looks like it needs some X libs and yum wants to install i386 versions of those too. -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell(a)gmail.com

restarting on scalix - thankyou

thank you all for your help. Recently, ver 10 came out for scalix and it includes all the 'third party' pieces like JDK and Tomcat. So now I am reading up on kickstart to rebuild this system and start clean. I have copied all of my changed files (I hope!!) onto my notebook, and am doing the one mod i need for kickstart (original was a CD install, this time FTP). So I will know very shortly if this will all work! I see in the anaconda file the instructions for partitioning my hard drive, which is very good as I did not clearly write down what I did! Another fun filled day!

Updating my install directory

Maybe YAM is the 'only' way to do this, and if so, well then its got to wait a while.... Situation: Right now the only usable disk space to locate the install CD files for an FTP/HTTP install is a Win2000 server. Accessed via FTP/HTTP. So when I do an install from it, I then need to do a yum update and it takes quite some time. At some point in the next quarter, I will be stable with Centos and my install will move to a Centos server and I guess then I would use YAM. Is there something I can download from one of the mirrors to bring this directory fairly up to date?

LDAP authentication problems

I am working on a ldap base to authenticate user. My problem is binding to ldap with phpldapadmin or cpu. I can bind anonymously with phpldapadmin. ldapadd, ldapsearch etc. works. Users in the database can logon, so the authentication works, but I cant bind.... I need some input please, I cant find the missing link. On the Mambo CMS site there are vulnerabilities found. Whilst this is not a CentOS problem, people rent/deploy servers (CentOS) on the net with Mambo. A guy in one of the user forums on the net, had his Mambo 4.5.2 server hacked and they installed some interesting stuff in /tmp . When a server is hacked it gives bad PR for the underlying OS. <----announcement on http://www.mamboserver.com/-----> Investigations by GulfTech Research And Development have revealed a long standing weakness in Mambo that could allow a hacker to compromise sites built on Mambo. The firms findings will be published in about a week's time. The Mambo development team has created fixes for versions 4.5.3 and 4.5.3h. The new patch files can be found at MamboXchange The patch packages are delivered in both ZIP and TAR.GZ formats - select whichever is right for you. Each package contains two files - content.php and mambo.php. These should replace the corresponding files in your existing installation, as follows: (1) The first file (content.php) should be used to overwrite this file:/components/com_content/content.php. (2) The second file (mambo.php) should be used to overwrite this file: /includes/mambo.php. Bandwidth limiting and shaping

Hi, I have a client that is looking for an solution to do bandwidth monitoring and traffic shapping. I would like to use Centos if possible, but I need somthing that has a GUI so they can easily make changes and updates. It would have to be ip based or mac address. What would you suggest. I have looked a Ipcop and smoothwall as solutions so far. Thanks

What's the procedure for filing bug reports related to kernel panics on CentOS/RHEL? I've just had the following kernel panic on one of the new mailstores (argh!). Would this have to be reproduceable to warrant a bug report? vpopmail over NFS not seeing new messages.

Hi all. We've just migrated our back-end NFS mailstore from FC1 systems to CentOS4 and are experiencing problems/delays with vpopmail and user Maildirs. IMAP is fine, it's just POP access that causes us problems. Now, NFS mounts successfully, the clients can see /home/vpopmail and serve content as we would expect. IMAP works perfectly and sees new messages as soon as they're delivered into the Maildir, but POP doesn't seem to see new messages until about 90 minutes after it arrived. Messages can be seen in users' Maildir/new on the filesystem. The timestamps on new messages on the NFS filesystems don't appear to be formatted correctly, I'm guessing this could cause the POP weirdness? On an NFS client... CPAN module install problem

I could use some assistance getting CPAN functional again. CPAN stopped working on Centos 4.2 x64, and I can no longer install modules. I did a install Bundle::CPAN and upgraded to 1.8.2, and perl was updated afterwards via yum update.
