xen vs. vmware server

Can anyone offer informed comments on the relative merits of choosing xen over vmware server, or vice versa? The target OS would all be CentOS4.2 or later as they become available. Patch and re-compile kernel rpm

I need to make changes to the kernel for a firewall application I am running. Can anyone point me to a howto on downloading the rpm, building the source, patching the source, and building the new kernel rpm? Apache patching questions

Hi I'm using CentOS 3, and it's fully patched using yum. Apache reports version 2.0.46 (CentOS) A colleague ran a copy of Nikto, a scripted vuln. finder, against my server, and reported the following problems. The only one I've tested is the directory traversal, and it seems to be an issue. Will the upstream vendor patch these issues in Apache 2.0.46, or not? If not, does anyone know why not? # Apache/2.0.46 (CentOS) - Apache 2.0 to 2.0.49 may allow unescaped data into logfiles, which could pose a threat when logs are viewed/parsed. CAN-2003-0020. Duplicating an install

I just completed YAI. The install was done via HTTP from an HTTP server (duh!). Is there some file I could copy into the directory structure (anaconda-ks.cfg) so that once I point the install to that server, it will do the second install just like the first?

Server Assistant from Dell?

Hello, I'm planning to install centos 4.2 x86_64 on a Poweredge 2800. This system comes with a EFI utility partition and has software called Server Assistant wich helps you to install your OS so that things like RAID and such can get monitored in an 'indepent' way afterwards through this EFI partition. When booting into the Server Assistant (the software is on a linux liveCD btw) I get the choice between a couple of supported OS's like MS server 2003, Novell or RHEL 3 or 4. So thinking that centos 4 is rhel 4 "without the artwork" I choose for the RHEL4 option and inject CD 1 from centos 4.2 ... but unfortunately I get the error wich asks me to insert the correct CD. Did anyone found a solution for this? I can always delete this EFI partition and install it the normal way but this feature looks nice to play with :-) kind regards, ivago

Caucho's resin on x86_64?

I'm trying to install the resin package from www.caucho.com on Centos 4.2/x86_64 with Sun jdk-1_5_0_06-linux-amd64. Everything appears to work during the install but I get: Socket JNI library is not available. Resin will still run but performance will be slower. To compile the Socket JNI library on Unix, use ./configure; make; make install. In the logs when it starts up. Did I miss something? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell(a)gmail.com

Centos vs FC

Hi all, I hope I'm not starting a flame war. I'm installing Centos 4.2 for a mail server. I've been experimenting with, Centos before, and now wanting to put it into a real action as mail server. Can someone pls tell me the up and down between Centos and FC? I'm familiar with FC4 and some things that I like from it: 1. The available packages are abundant. Very easy to find packages for FC4. 2. The user list is very active and friendly too. Is there anything out there? Particularly already compiled... I see http://www.freeradius.org/dialupadmin.html But I would have to do my own make, and the system I want it for I do not have the compiling pieces.
