Darwin Streaming Server

Greetings CentOS Fans. I've downloaded the "Redhat 9" version of Darwin Streaming Server from Apple. The binary seems to load and run, but I can't get it to actually stream any files. Not a CentOS issue, but I am curious if anyone else is running Darwin Streaming Server on CentOS, and what they had to do to get it to work correctly. Apple's website seems to be all over the place, and the .pdf's I've found seem to be barely helpful. Thanks. Mike

Video driver for IBM Netvista w/Intel 845 chipset

Hello, I am having problems with video in X. I get an over frequency issue using the stock CentOS 4.2 driver. I have searched IBM and Intel for the driver but no luck. Occassionally I see something about need to load a kernel module for agpgart. How do I do this? Anyone have a similar setup or know where I can find the driver? TIA

OK, I got it solved. Thank goodness for a screen that scrolls back a long way!! I was able to pull the install order from the console output (note to self, sending a copy of the console messages to a file would be a good thing). From there I was able to determine what was left off, and the proper order run through. Probably the best method would be to do the following: *Work backwards from the last RPM downloaded. *Since the rpm name might be truncated, do a "rpm -qa | grep rpm name" *You should see 2 versions, the old one and the new one (since the install process itself completed). *Do a "rpm -e --justdb newer rpm name" *Continue through until you reach the transaction that failed. *Do a "yum update rpm name" from that point back down the list in the correct order of the downloads. This will back out just the rpm database entry, and allow you run the yum transaction correctly, including all pre/post/postun scripts. Some thoughts: Once you back out all the database entries, you could probably just run "yum update" which should catch everything that you need. I didn't back things out in the reverse order, but worked from the stopping point on. In hindsight, this is probably what led to a few dependency issues which required the --nodeps flag. A script might work out nicely, but I wanted to watch each transaction for problems. Thanks, Ian

Missing Dependencies

I finally got to installing TinyCA2 but have some dependency problems: yum localinstall tinyca2-0.7.2-0.noarch.rpm --> Processing Dependency: perl-Gtk2 for package: tinyca2 --> Processing Dependency: perl-MIME-Base64 for package: tinyca2 --> Finished Dependency Resolution Error: Missing Dependency: perl-Gtk2 is needed by package tinyca2 Error: Missing Dependency: perl-MIME-Base64 is needed by package tinyca2 I ASSuME this means that these packages are not in the CentOS distro. So where can I find them? Perhaps this is part of CentOSplus??

mail/access revisited

A while back, I posted a note asking if anyone had any ideas why the /etc/mail/access file was not being parsed or utilized in the efforts to stop spam and junk mail. I just looked over things again, and have still not found any reason why it still permits the TLD's I have listed to pass thru. I also thought perhaps there might be some "upper limit" to the number of entries sendmail could handle. What do the sendmail guru's think about that idea? I may reduce the number of entries from the current 275 +/- down to just the most offensive TLD's and see what happens. Short of that, are there any other thoughts ya'll might have as to why it still passes the stuff I want blocked? Thanks.. Sam

OT: routing between eth0 and ppp0 WITHOUT NAT

Sorry to post this here, but since last week I've posted to Fedora's mailing list, pptp-devel's list, and linuxgeneral forum. No one has given much for answers, or the people that have replied have not understood what I'm looking for. Hoping someone here can. For the record, I'm doing this on FC3 not CentOS. Anyway, if anyone can provide assistance I would be very appreciative. I'm trying to setup linux as a router instead of a MASQ/NAT over a VPN. So I'm trying to "connect" to private networks using the VPN as the conduit. Here are the details: On a Fedora Core 3 machine 1) running pptpclient 2) pptpclient is configured to do "LAN to LAN" 3) machine set to act as a router: /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward is set to 1 After I make the pptp connection I do: iptables -F When I try to use the connection the machine is still doing NAT. So next I also do: iptables -t nat -F Now, that breaks it so other machines cannot access the remote network at all, even though the static routes are still in place. For example, I have a windows machine that can access the remote network before blowing the nat table away. After blowing the nat table away, if I do a tracert on the windows machine, the tracert stops at the internal nic (eth0) of the FC3 pc with the vpn connection. It is also setup as a router. So it never does an routing. I've also played with lots of different rules found on the net for dealing with H323 over iptables and have had no success. I've also loaded ip_conntrack and that did not make a difference. So the FC3 machine, with a connection to eth0 and ppp0, plus set to act as a router, does not appear to act as a router between eth0 and ppp0. Is it possible to make it be a router between eth0 and ppp0 WITHOUT masquerade? Just be a router.... We have routes on the other side telling the routers how to reach my internal network. To ask the question why? I have an IPPhone that does not work through iptables. In the past I used IPCop as my firewall and connect to my company with branch office VPN. The VPN was great and super stable, but the IPPhone would connect once in a while at best. Research showed the problem was iptables. I now have a hardware router that does branch office and the phone works pretty well. I want to try and get it to work with the above scenrio so I can take the phone with me on the road. I would like to pptp vpn using laptop's wireless NIC. Then have the phone directly connected to the 10/100 NIC with a crossover cable. Maybe I'm in a dreamland and this is not possible, I don't know. Any assistance is appreciated. James

Thanks Johnny. Well, here is some good news (I hope). I was able to scroll back on the console, and it looks like all of the RPMs were installed, but it is the actual post-install scripts that were interrupted. I checked the list of what was installed vs. the list of what was dowloaded/needed, and they match. So, any ideas on how to complete the post-install process? Ian
