EOL notice for CentOS-4/sparc beta release

Hi, I cannot take any more arches for official maintenance at current state of the CentOS-project. I'll keep it security updated until end of August, 2006. After that it's not supported (unless someone else picks it up). I am sorry it has to be this way. Installing a package group after the initial install

I recently installed a system using the CentOS 4.3 CDs which is now up and running. Everything is running fine, but I forgot to install one of the "package groups" that Anaconda offers as an option. Is there a way to install this group on a running system using the data on the CDs (i.e., not via a repository)? If not, is there a way to get the list of RPMs that belong to a package group? If I had that information, I could install the RPMs manually. Thanks, Alfred

Unpacking of archive failed??

Greetings, I have just been given a VPS with a fresh, minimal Centos 4.2 installation. When I ran "yum update" it went on updating some tenths of packages and signalled this error: Updating : perl ####################### [24/88] Updating : rpm-python ####################### [25/88] Updating : MAKEDEV ####################### [26/88] error: unpacking of archive failed on file /dev/MAKEDEV: cpio: rename Updating : iputils ####################### [27/88] Updating : ruby ####################### [28/88] What does this exactly mean, and what is the safe/right thing to do? Looking for Machine to locate in Osuosl

Hi, We aee looking to locate a machine in osuosl (www.osuosl.org) on Internet 2, to make syncs to our I2 mirrors faster. If anyone has a machine spare they would be willing to donate to the project we would be grateful. Donor would get listing on CentOS website. Alternatively any spare components that we could build a machine ourselves from would be appreciated. Spec not important - Celeron , P4 or better. Machine does need lots of drive space - or a nas/san array. new initrd

Hi Can anyone show me how to make a new initrd for a newly rolled kernel? I have to install a 'custom' 2.6.14 kernel and i have build the kernel and now just trying to build the initrd cd /boot mkinitrd initrd-2.6.14.img 2.6.14 No module mptbase found for kernel 2.6.14, aborting. What am i doing wrong? thanks

Good morning, First I would recommend using different rules for your INPUT and FORWARD chains; it's 100 times easier to troubleshoot and can make things look a lot simpler. Second, I would refrain from posting any external ip addresses on a public forum. I'm not sure about your setup, but usually when you're creating rules such as these, it's a good idea to start off with a default policy of DROP for INPUT, OUTPUT and FORWARD. From a security perspective it's better to block everything and only allow what you're looking for. Anyways, for your rules, I would replace "-A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -i eth0 -s 82.201.195.123 -j ACCEPT" and "-A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m tcp -p tcp --dport 22 -j REJECT" with: -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -i eth0 -p tcp -m tcp -s ! 82.201.195.123 --dport 22 -j DROP This will drop everything on eth0 going to port 22 from everywhere except the ip address specified. However, it's still easy to spoof an ip address in order to get ssh access to this box. I would really recommend to set all your default policies to DROP though. QVCS on Centos

Hello, I,installed last year qvcs on Centos 3.4 . Now I want to install on another machine and I don't know what version is the most stabile for qvcs. The last installation is working fine, but I didn't manage to resolve the autoresponder problem for name.lastname users. The accounts that had "." are not working with autoresponder.
