Ultra simple mail server config?

Hello, I am hoping you folks on the list could advise me on this... Can anyone point me towards a HOW-TO that describes how to transform a normal CentOS install into a very basic POP3/IMAP/SMTP email server? Our current ISP where we host ~15 domains and ~25+ email accounts has a mandatory incoming "auto-discard" spam filter that is far too strict to continue using. Unfortunately, switching ISPs is not an option right now. I am looking at signing up for a basic low-memory CentOS "Virtual Dedicated Server" to handle our own incoming (& outgoing) mail. There will not be a full-time IT person to maintain the server, so simplicity is a must. I am perfectly fine with leaving out complex server-side spam filtering, though I suspect that some basic blacklist usage would be a good idea. Most specifically, I don't want to add the security liability and maintenance requirements of a typical "default" server. (Apache, PHP, MySQL, Bind, etc.) Basically, I want an ultra-basic server that I can set for automatic updates and let it continue running "hands-off" until CentOS 4 is no longer supported with security patches. Does such a HOW-TO exist? If not, and there are experts here willing to help out, I would be happy to write up my experience. Raw print queues in CentOS 4.4

Hi All, I have a raw print queue configured in CentOS 4.4 for a printer connected to a Windows PC. The printer doesn't have a Linux driver of any sort, so this was the only way to print to it. The printer is an Okidata dot matrix printer. Users can print to it from a console application, but if they try printing to it from OOo Writer, the printer spits out reams of pages with what looks like postscript code. The very first page has a line that says "%! PS-Adobe-3.0". Even though the print queue is configured as "raw", why are OOo Writer print jobs still sent as postscript documents? I'm don't know too much about printing, postscript, etc., so I don't know if this is normal or if something broke. Well, I have written that onboard network controller doesn't work... It's not true anymore. A small howto: 1) add pci network card 2) install with "linux all-generic-ide pci=nommconf" 3) update to the latest distro kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3 4) get http://heanet.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/e1000/e1000-7.3.20.tar.gz 5) do have kernel-headers, rpmbuild ... etc. 6) rpmbuild -ta e1000-7.3.20.tar.gz 7) rpm -ihv /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/e1000-7.3.20-1.i386.rpm 8) boot, remove pci eth, boot :o) Regards, David -------- Původní zpráva -------- Předmět: Re: [CentOS] Easy upgrade path from beta5 to stable 5? How to configure SquidGuard with blacklist

spamdoptions?

Apologies for not finding it in my searching yet... I think it is my "sometimers" kickin' in... ;-> I am looking for info on the granularity knob control for number of extra spamd daemons on startup. ...AND if one has enough processors and ram memory, how to know how many "extra" to have available to speed up scanning and such under load. rsync doesn't update directory ownership

Hi all, Has anyone encountered this: On ServerA, I make this directory: /var/ftp/pub/userA with ownership root.root It gets rsynced to serverB with this command: rsync -avzgorp --delete -e ssh /var/ftp/pub/ root@serverB:/var/ftp/pub/ However, when I change the ownership of /var/ftp/pub/userA to userA.userA, this change is not rsync-ed to serverB. Is there any option to achieve this? The -a actually is a shortcut for -rlptogoD, so all you really need is -avz as options. If you could provide an ls -la of the source and remote directories, that would help tremendously. One thing that comes to mind is to be sure that userA.userA has the same UID & GID on both servers. In my case, where I'm rsyncing to a remote server and the UID/GID don't match, you'll just get numeric IDs as owners and groups on the remote side. So, try eliminating the duplicate options first, be sure UID/GID are the same on both servers. Let us know how it goes. HTH Thanks! downgrading mysql

Hi, I had upgraded mysql from mysql-4.1.20-1.RHEL4.1 to mysql-5.0.22-1.centos.1 via CentOS plus. Now I would like to downgrade it back to the 4.1 version. How can i get this done? thanks LC
