Dual Heads?

I decided to blow out the FC2 installation I inherited on my workstation when I started here and installed CentOS-4.4-i386. Server side stuff I pretty much have down cold, but getting two heads on two seperate video cards doesn't seem to work for me. I'm using the built in Intel 865/810 card as primary, and an ATI Radeon 9200 PCI card as secondary. Initially, my system bios on this Dell 4600 was set to Auto for which card is primary. That made the ATI card primary. Configuring the 865 card as secondary, and I have the same monitor on both heads, didn't seem to do anything for me. Then, I set the onboard video as primary, went back into system-config-display and configured the ATI card as secondary, logout/login still nothing changed. I'm trying to get it to configure as 'spanning desktops', so I just have twice as much real estate, and ideally can drag in between. Anyone have suggestions? eSATA

Has anyone ever triend to hang a eSATA drive chasis off oc a centos box? Not specifically this box, but something like this.... http://www.compsource.com/ttechnote.asp?part_no=DS1220&src=F I have used internal SATA drives on 3ware cards before without an issue. Didn't know if this was in the same arena. Thanks! Andrew

Hi, I tried to mount an audio cdrom to listen to its music. Disk Elevator

Can anyone explain how the disk elevator works and if there is anyway to tweak it? I have an email server which likely has a large number of read and write requests and was wandering if there was anyway to improve performance. Matt

Firewalling SMTP

I have a Centos server and I want to only accept mail for the local users from 3 mail servers, but I still want the users to be able to send emails through this server, If I firewall the SMTP port to my 3 mail servers is there any way users will be able to still send via the main POP server ? (currently using Sendmails SMTP-Auth) Thanks Denis

Naive suggestions for (kinda) funding

First of all, don't shoot me if I got some things wrong. I personally recommend (without much success :-)) to buy from www.cheeplinux.com (Definite Software), because I believe this is of some help to the CentOS project. At least, to some people involved in it (please correct me if I'm wrong). §1. Anyway, as PayPal is _not_ an option for some countries, donations to CentOS.org can't be done by PayPal. I suggest to add an item "donate to CentOS: GBP 1" to www.cheeplinux.com, the same way Slackware has an item of $1, so you can "buy" as many of these to donate. Moving on: www.cheeplinux.com is by no means "the cheepest", on the contrary. From the three virtual stores I trust (and I have used), we have e.g. (shipping is extra): * 2 CDs on cheeplinux.com US$14.75, and they're paper-printed on the face; * 2 CDs on thelinuxstore.ca US$7.70, and they're ink-printed(!) on the face; * 2 CDs on linuxcd.org US$3.50, and they still work :-)) (plus they constantly have new items); Again, I am "pro-cheeplinux.com" in the hope this helps the CentOS project. §2. For that price, to have a real success, Cheeplinux should try ink-printing on the CD/DVD surface, like the Canadians do. Properly adverstised, sales should increase noticeably, and they should compensate the increased production costs. §3. Cheeplinux is also the only place where one can find such cute things like the CentOS PC badge #2: http://www.cheeplinux.com/product_info.php?products_id=210 My suggestion is to try to add some more CentOS-specific/uniquely-branded stuff. Take a look at some interesting products made in Brazil, carrying Red Hat's branding (most likely, illegally): -- a superb pin, 23 x 23 mm: http://www.linuxmall.com.br/index.php?product_id=982 -- a great rollerbal: http://www.linuxmall.com.br/index.php?product_id=2421 You could try to cut a deal with these Brasilieros to produce _CentOS-branded_ stuff of the same quality. They could ship bulk quantities to the UK, for sale through Cheeplinux.com. A good thing is that LinuxMall.com.br does NOT sell to Europe (except for Portugal), and... their site is in Portuguese only!!! So no, no real competition :) So, should you get such a pin for GBP 1 (R$ 3.90 make GBP 0.93), you might sell it with something like GBP 3; the rollerball at ~GBP 3.30 could sell at GBP 10, and these are only for the specified items. That is, similar items, CentOS-branded! Ask me in private for the e-mail of a contact person at LinuxMall.com.br who can speak English (well... sort of, but good enough). Maybe they will cooperate. Server Install Eth0 & Eth1 not working

Hi Everyone: I installed CentOS 4.4 on a new Dell 2950 using the server cd. No errors during the installation and no errors on bootup when loading the Eth0 or Eth1 interfaces. I currently have iptables stopped and selinux disabled. The interfaces have been given a static ip (192.168.1.x). the subnet is 255.255.255.0 and the gateway is 192.168.1.1. I can not ping any device on my network including the gateway. I can ping 127.0.0.1 and the 192.168.1.x. After trying to ping another device ifconfig will show that on ifcfg-lo transmit and receive packets of 389 or some other number depending on how many ping packets were sent. Ifcfg-th0 or Ifcfg-eth1 will not show any TX or RX packets. The box was ordered to support RH from Dell. The NIC is an embedded dual port Broadcom NetXtreme II5708 GigabitEthernet NIC. I've replaced all network cables and the ports to where they connect into the switch and even a different switch and it still will not show me any love. Any ideas would be welcome! Thanks Ed
